1 | Is Genesis 1:2 the fall of satan? | Gen 1:2 | Appleseed | 143817
Hi, Thought I would answer this question in 2 notes - #1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). When God creates something it is always perfect (Deut. 32:4; Ps. 18:30). “For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth and made it, who has established it, who did not create it in vain, who formed it to be inhabited” (Is. 45:18). So why does the next verse say “the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep”? There is no time frame given from the creation of earth (Gen. 1:1) to the chaos on the earth (Gen. 1:2). “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:2). Jeremiah speaks of the exact same thing, “I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; and the heavens, they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth. I beheld, and indeed there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled. I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, by His fierce anger” (Jer. 4:23-26). This has never happened since then and will never happen not even during the tribulation. The earth was literally destroyed and covered with water. And because there was no light there was no heat therefore the earth was literally a ball of ice. Then God reformed the earth and recreated physical life forms over 6 days. Could God do make plants grow in super quick time? Of course He can. Who destroyed the earth? What was before the destruction? And why was the earth destroyed? Is there any correlation between the flood of Gen. 1:2 and God flood in the days of Noah Gen. 7? Who destroyed the earth? God destroyed the earth. Job said, “God removes the mountains, and they do not know when He overturns them in His anger; He shakes the earth out of its place, and its pillars tremble; He commands the sun, and it does not rise; He seals off the stars” (Job 9:5-7). This has not happened since Adam and will not happen, not even in the tribulation period. Then Job goes on to describe Gen. 1:2-5. “He alone spreads out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea; He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south” (Job 9:7-9). |

Appleseed - What you are proclaiming, of course, is a version of what is commonly known as the "Gap Theory." But don't you think that your theory puts enormously more of man's imagination and speculation between verses 1 and 2 of Genesis 1 than the Holy Spirit ever revealed in the entire creation account? What I am really saying is that in your two back-to-back posts you have been working diligently on the construction of a theoretical building which has no scriptural foundation. ...... Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This is a summary statement which introduces what is to follow and is used in much the same way as a title for a chapter or a book. ..... Genesis 1:2: "The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters." So where is the "destruction" in this verse? There is no destruction in verse 2 and no gap beteen 1:1 and 1:2. Verse 2 simply describes a work in progress. God is not finished with His creation! Give Him time to do His work, for goodness sake! Creation of a universe is not a piece of cake, you know -- try it sometime. :-) After all, God did in six days what evolutionists like Carl Sagan said took "billions and billions of years." ...... Goodness knows the Bible is complex and hard enough to understand as it is. Why O why do we insist on making it more complex by piling on gap theories and other baggage that is not a part of the word of God. Why don't we throw man's theories in the trash heap where they've always belonged and take God's word for what it actually says and accept it for what it really is: the lamp to our feet and the light to our path? As we say here in the Ozarks, "These cock-eyed theories ain't gonna get nobody to heaven or even put bread in one hungry belly." --Hank

Hank, I don't know of any "Gap Theory" all I know is what the Bible says and thus shared it. Like Paul says, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15. These verses that were provided only explain one thing, no dotted line - wasn't a time after nor is it for time to come but before. Is it important to know the truth - of course, please refer to the post I shared with Doc on how it impacts bringing people to Jesus. In the Living Vine |

Hi, Appleseed... Here's a link that talks about the Gap Theory and a little of its history: http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c003.html Also, just an aside, the value of a theory ought not be measured in how something "impacts bringing people to Jesus." Our faith is very practical, but we are not pragmatists. In Him, Doc |
