1 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | Hank | 54723
Brad, just moments ago, before reading your post in which you pointed out that pot is, among other things, an illicit and controlled substance, I listened to a radio news cast on which was the story about a regional athlete who was stopped by police for speeding and subsequently was found to be high on pot and was arrested. The thought crossed my mind: what would it do to my witness for Christ if I were arrested for speeding and being high on pot, and in the news cast it was said that this man is a member of First Baptist Church? And what if, after spending a few days in the slammer, I visited a friend to talk to him about Jesus. My friend says, "Hank, I thought you were going to call on me last week." And I confess, "Well, I'd meant to you see, but I was arrested for speeding and being high on pot, and just this morning got out of jail. Sorry for the delay. I hope you understand. Now, let's talk about Jesus..." How great an impact am I likely to make? Has my witness been clouded by the smoke of pot? --Hank
2 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54728
Dear Hank, I believe Paul summed this up in Galatians 5:20--"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, WITCHCRAFT, hatred,..." The word "witchcraft" comes from the Greek, "pharmakeia", and according to Vine's-- "(Eng., "pharmacy," etc.) primarily signified "the use of medicine, drugs, spells;" then, "poisoning;" then, "sorcery," Gal 5:20, RV, "sorcery" (AV, "witchcraft"), mentioned as one of "the works of the flesh." See also Rev 9:21; 18:23. In the Sept., Exd 7:11,22; 8:7,18; Isa 47:9,12. In "sorcery," the use of drugs, whether simple or potent, was generally accompanied by incantations and appeals to occult powers, with the provision of various charms, amulets, etc., professedly designed to keep the applicant or patient from the attention and power of demons, but actually to impress the applicant with the mysterious resources and powers of the sorcerer." God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

3 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | BradK | 54731
Dear Hank and 2 Samuel 22, Your observations are noted and applauded. I have to add a couple final notes to this topic. 1. christiansforcannabis.com is a sad but sorry attempt to justify their behavior from a scriptural standpoint. But, where do we stop? How about: Christians for Heroin, Christians for Acid, or Christians for Mescaline, etc. Where does it end?; 2. Can anyone seriously picture our Lord, Jesus Christ, in His Holiness engaging in illicit drug use? If He wouldn't, why should we? Lets'get real! Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |
