1 | what I want to know is it mental consent | Gen 12:1 | EdB | 57570 | ||
Kalos I only mentioned it because I had the question asked of me, "is it enough to just believe or is there more?". I like you thought the word believe in John 3:16 was different from our word believe. Example if you handed me a hunk of rope rated for 1000 lbs. I could say I believe this will hold me. However I really don't "pistueo" believe until I'm suspended by it. Pistueo the Greek word translated believe really meant far more than our word believe. I was very comfortable with that idea until I was using an interlinear and notices the same word was use in James 2:19. I wondered about this for many days and even asked the question of a few of our good friends on the forum. It wasn’t until I came across the Titus 2:11-15 that I could answer the question. Yes were are saved by grace by believing in Jesus but that saving grace causes a change within us. If that change is not evident in our lives then we have to reevaluate were we in fact believing or ‘pistueo’ believing. EdB |

EdB: I agree with what you write: "Yes were are saved by grace by believing in Jesus but that saving grace causes a change within us. If that change is not evident in our lives then we have to reevaluate were we in fact believing or ‘pistueo’ believing." You are so right. Our salvation is not proven by a past moment in time. The Word (especially the book of 1 John) tells us what the evidences of genuine saving faith are. If these evidences are not present in the life of a professing believer, then something is wrong. AMPLIFIED 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you--unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected? You see, brother, I've always believed that, while you and I are not in 100 percent agreement about everything (but who is?), we still agree with each other more often than not. Grace to you, kalos |
