1 | So is the book of Romans 4 a contraditio | Gen 12:1 | New Creature | 57491 | ||
The Bible does not contradict itself. Therefore seeming contradictions, come from our misunderstanding of scripture. Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. "Now I know that there are some who will insist that works and obedience are good but that they are not essential. They argue that God's favor can only be gained through faith. While it is certainly true that a right relationship with God comes only through faith, it does not come through the kind of faith which is barren. Genuine faith stimulates those who possess it to obedience. If yours does not, it is thereby called into serious question." (source unknown) "Only he who believes is obedient. Only he who is obedient, believes." (Bonhoeffer) "Brethren, I would point out that obedience is taught throughout the entire Bible and that true obedience is one of the toughest requirements of the Christian life. Apart from obedience, there can be no salvation, for salvation without obedience is a self-contradictory impossibility." -- A.W. Tozer, I Call it Heresy "a living faith will be an obedient faith" (Spurgeon) "obedience to the will of God is the ultimate test of our love for God, and the only true response to His love for us." (source unknown) Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he it is who loves me. (John 14:21,23) If you obey my commands,you will remain in my love (John 15:10) James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Mt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven |

"Not faith all by itself, alone"? NIV Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law. GOD'S WORD Romans 3:28 We conclude that a person has God's approval by faith, not by his own efforts. NASB Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. AMPLIFIED Romans 3:28 For we hold that a man is justified and made upright by faith independent of and distinctly apart from good deeds (works of the Law). [The observance of the Law has nothing to do with justification.] New Living Translation Romans 3:28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law. TEV Romans 3:28 For we conclude that a person is put right with God only through faith, and not by doing what the Law commands. |
