Greetings Tim! Thanks for the response my friend! I kind of asked you a loaded question my friend. I am well aware that many teach that there is some sort of distinction between 'logos' and 'rhema', but Scripture doesn't bear this out. In fact, the two terms are often used interchangeably. Consider the following examples: *************************************** The terms 'logos' and 'rhema' are basically synonymous. The both refer to a spoken word, though 'logos' has a richer tradition in both philosophical and theological thought. The fact that they are synonymous can be illustrated from Scripture. Here are a couple of examples. 1) Consider Luke 9:44 - " 44 ?Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.?" Here, 'logos' is used to refer to the words (or saying) about the betryal of the Son of Man. Now, look at Luke 9:45 - "But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they might not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement." Here, 'rhema' is used to refer to the statment Jesus just made in Luke 9:44. So, in the span of two verses, both terms are used to describe the same saying. 2) Luke 6:47 uses 'logos' to refer to Jesus' teaching, while Luke 7:1 uses 'rhema' to refer to His teaching. 3) John 8:43 uses 'logos' to refer to the words that the Jews could not hear, while John 8:47 uses 'rhema' to refer to the that they could not hear. 4) John 10:19 uses 'logos' to refer to the teaching that so upset the Jews, while John 10:21 uses 'rhema' to refer to the same teaching. 5) John 12:47-49 uses the terms interchangebly. There are other examples, but these should suffice. Both terms have as their basic meaning a spoken word. **************************************** While I do believe that God enlights us through His Spirit, the distinction made between these two words is really not valid. Both simply refer to something said or spoken. p.s. - Nice name my friend! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, There are differences in the above listed scriptures. Luke 9:44 Jesus spoke to then and told them to let it sink in.. Luke 9:45 They did not 'understand' or they did not 'hear'. Even though they could have quoted Jesus' words and surely understod the meaning of each word, they did not 'hear the message'. John too is a good example: John 8:43 No 'hearing'..just words John 8:47 'Hearing' rhema John 10:19 why do you listen? no 'hearing' John 10:21 spiritual understanding or enlightenment.. John 12:47-47 speaks of the non hearing being judged by the Word... John 1 The Word, Jesus, came as light..the entrance of His truth changes and transforms. The conforming to His Word as mere words or a religion without the revelation of the living Jesus raised from the dead will help one be moral but does nothing to cleans the soul and change the heart and re birth the spirit. Have you ever received a spirtual revelation? Or to put it another way, has the entrance of the Word brought light, then you share it with a friend and they just looked at you as if to say 'so what' or 'what language are you speaking?' You may answer this with a 'no' but let me ask you, When you heard the preached word and were convicted as a sinner and KNEW Jesus was the savior you needed. My friend, is this not that 'revelation' or enlightenment? If not, what would you call it? God bless |

Graceful, I agree with your writings on “Being led by the Spirit” My concern for many on this forum is they seem to downplay Spiritual enlightenment and discernment. I agree there have been many excesses in the Church of those who call themselves Full gospel, of the faith movement, or Charismatic. Some teaching being based on how one feels as opposed to the word of God. I will not deny that mistakes have been made in Christians coming into Spiritual enlightenment and maturity. But as the saying goes, “Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.” Again I do not agree with everything that is preached from a pulpit in America, on TV or written a book. We are called to study to show ourselves approved, a workman who needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of God for ourselves. Clearly as you know, we are to be following Christ in a new and living way, being led by the Spirit. This requires Spiritual enlightenment of the Word of God. If we do not get Spiritual understanding from the Spirit, to the spirit (from within or hearts) we will be following God by a written code (From outside our selves, like the Old Testament and the Jews that followed the LAW) and it will be reduced to LAW. 2Cor 3: 3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life On the other side of the coin we must keep ourselves grounded in the written word of God otherwise we can be deceived or misled. I do not disagree with this point at all. I do not think or believe I am without error, for we look through the glass darkly. I have learned a few things since I started writing on this forum. I could be wrong but it seems as if our forum brethren see Spiritual understanding as unbiblical. Like extra revelation such as the Jehovah Witness and Mormons when in fact it is VITALLY necessary for us to walk in the Spirit or be reduced to following the letter of the New Testament. The New Testament is not the New Law. My prayer is to be able to communicate with them to further understand what seems to be unclear, I hope this communication is part of bridging that gap! Love, Tim H. |

Tim Just so you know who your agreeing with as your lead by the spirit. There are many (graceful) on this forum from the Word of Faith denomination. That "denomination" teaches faith in faith. In other words if we have enough faith God HAS to do it. Word of Faith is far different than Pentecostal, Full Gospel or even Charismatic. It's teachings have been found and proven to be cultic. In that you no longer depend on God but rather on your faith. EdB |

I perceive Graceful is a blessed child of God and walking is a solid foundation of light in God's word. I do not think I would judge her on the merits of other peoples beliefs, I will remain open to her (I believe graceful is a sister, if not I am sorry Graceful) sound and clear writings of the truth. I believe you may have misinterpreted what the word of faith people teach. I personally would like to stay off the topic of denominations and stay on the word of God and Spiritual enlightenment. We need to be careful about what we say about our brothers and sisters, we will be judged for it. Love, Tim H. |

Tim I have neither misunderstood or misinterpret WOF I know it inside and out. I'm willing to stand in judgement of my stand against WOF. One of the problems of WOF is they says things that are so close to being the truth they appear true. The fact remains they place their faith in faith. If you like to stay off the topics of Denominations you surprise me since that is all you have talked about since you came on this forum, how denominations are leading people to hell. Tell me could you possibly be a "non denominational" Word of Faith person as they like to think of themselves? EdB |

I am a Christian, I believe you have misunderstood. I have not said anything about denominations leading people to hell. I have quoted Galatians in regards to works based teachings and what Paul had to say about them. I have made comments about the lack of discipleship in the Church. I have made statements about faith and salvation and righteousness by faith and not works. I have made comments about division being SIN. But I have not said: All you have talked about since you came on this forum, how denominations are leading people to hell. You are way off base there. I am a Bible believing Christian learning to live and move and have my being in Christ, who is our life. I am learning to walk in the Spirit and I will resist any attempt to DIVIDE the body, that is Satan's job. If you truly believe you are born again in your heart you are my brother, like it or not. Love, Tim H. |
