1 | Pragmatism is of the World | Job 21:15 | Country Girl | 129629 | ||
I'm thinking I can feel free to jump in and respond so here goes. I think your statement shows a lot of wisom. In the final analysis, about as final as you can get on Judgment Day, God is going to be looking to see how we lived our lives. So from a practical standpoint, although DocT's point may be right on target and God IS in fact King of the whole universe, whether or not we make it into Heaven depends on how we lived our lives. Our two choices as freely given by God is to act like He is in fact King of our lives and submit to His commands, guidance and examples in His Holy Word OR we can choose to act in any other way we choose, unruly or unGodly which gets us a one-way ticket to Hell. It seems God's Word is very clear on this matter, is it not? Awaiting your response or possibly DocT's, Hank's?? Blessings to you all. Country Girl PS: By the way, I'm thinking Pragmatism is basically an interesting way to talk about being practical. That is the actual action being accomplished and associated steps to get there in contrast to the theory or merely discussing such an action. In other words: "where the rubber meets the road." |

Greetings Country Girl! You wrote: "...whether or not we make it into Heaven depends on how we lived our lives." Where does Scripture actually say this? Scripture clearly teaches that this is not true. Consider the following: 1) Titus 3:4 - "But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life." 2) 2 Tim. 1:9 - "who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time," Christians are already citizens of Heaven - NOW! Our citizenship is not dependent upon how we live our lifes. Phil. 3:20 - "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ," Our inheritance in Heaven is kept by God Himself for us. 'Kept' is the word 'guarded'. We don't have to 'hope' we will get our inheritance. God Himself is guarding it and keeping it for us. 1 Pet. 1:4 - " and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you," I pray that everyone reading this would, once and for all, come to understand God's grace. We don't have to 'earn' salvation. It is a gift, not a wage to be earned. It is a present reality, not something that we only hope we will receive in the future. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Don't you see, I'm just trying to help people be as certain as they can be so we can KNOW we're going to Heaven as described in 1 John 5. There are at least as many scriptures in the Bible in support of my position as there are in favor of yours, i.e. John 12:48 and Rev 2:10. And again, when the scriptures offer two different positions on a particular topic, it's always safer to err on the side of caution. If we do everything in our power to obey God, then we can approach Judgment Day with confidence. Once we know God's commands, we can't tell Him on that Fateful Day tell Him we didn't know of those commands. And since we're all Bible students here on the Forum, we all do want to do ALL of what God wants us to do, right? Blessings to all of God's children and our attempts to obey Him. Country Girl |

Greetings Country Girl! But, your going about it the wrong way by trying to 'earn' it! :-( We can approach judgement day with complete confidence if we have accepted the gift of salvation, not by trying to be 'good' enough. If you really want to help people KNOW that they are going to Heaven, encourage them to trust in God's grace - not their own works. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
