I've found that the Gospel can be taught even with the Good News Bible. It does an amazing job on Baptism verses: Ac 2:38 - Peter said to them, "Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God's gift, the Holy Spirit. Ro 6:4 - By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life. 1Pe 3:21 - which was a symbol pointing to baptism, which now saves you. It is not the washing off of bodily dirt, but the promise made to God from a good conscience. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Col 2:12 - For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ through your faith in the active power of God, who raised him from death. |

Greetings Disciplerami! I am glad that you are back. There is still my question about Acts 10 which you have never answered. Now, you have the opportunity. Acts 2:38, according to your interpretation, says that if one both repents and is baptized, that individual will then receive 'forgiveness of sins' and 'the gift of the Holy Spirit' Acts 10:45 specifically says that they had received 'the gift of the Holy Spirit', and then they were baptized because of that fact in Acts 10:47. How do you explain this? The Greek text is exactly the same! ;-) The English is excatly the same! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
