1 | Did Jesus go to hell after dying? | Ephesians | ThomasTheNonDoubter | 26439
Yes He did. He had to pay the full penalty for our sins. Then, the good part, He was raised up, grabbed Satan and drug him around making a public specticle of him in front of his subserviants.
2 | Did Jesus go to hell after dying? | Ephesians | EdB | 26448
Thomas Jesus paid for our sins on the cross with his death. John 19:30 Jesus did descend to hell (Abraham’s bosom) but Satan wasn't there since Satan is on the earth and seeking whom he will destroy. The idea that Jesus went to hell to be tormented is total nonsense. 'Hell' or "Sheol" is the holding place for dead. Before Jesus there was two sections one hot and dry and the other called Abraham’s bosom (paradise) Luke 16:22-31. Upon Jesus' death Jesus went to paradise and preach to the captives and led them to heaven Eph. 4:8. The only ones in hell now are the those that refused to believe and they await final judgement at the Great White Throne of Judgement where they will be thrown into the lake of fire where Satan already had been thrown. Rev 20:10 and Rev 20:14 The idea that Satan is in hell is incorrect, what does Satan want in hell he is too busy between earth and heaven. Earth seeking who he can destroy and heaven where he accuses the brethren. 1 Peter 5:8 Rev 12:9-10 EdB |

Rom 10:7 or, Who shall descend into the abyss? (That is, to bring Christ up from the dead.) **************** This clearly points out that Jesus descended into the abyss otherwise the Bible wouldn't have asked about bringing Him up from it. |

4 | Did Jesus go to hell after dying? | Ephesians | EdB | 26585
Thomas Read context, don't just proof text, verses taken out of context become pretext. This passage is talking about finding Christ. It doesn't require an impossible odyssey throughout the universe, all it requires is faith. Paul the writer of Romans is saying you don’t have to go to Heaven to find Jesus nor do you have to go to the Abyss. Again Jesus did descend into ‘Hell’, ‘hell’ being the holding place for the dead, again it is divided into two sections one a hot dry place and the other paradise or Abraham’s bosom. We see this picture in Luke 16. Jesus went to Abraham’s bosom to preach the Good News to those that died looking for their redemption or the coming Messiah. He then lead them captive to heaven Eph 4:8. Today when we died if we are in Christ we go directly to be with him in heaven. If we die unsaved then we go to the hot dry place and await judgement at the Great White Throne of Judgement. Satan is not in hell! Satan does not rule hell! Satan wants nothing to do with hell! All that are in hell today were deceived by him. The bible clearly tells us Satan where Satan is he on the earth or in heaven. When on earth he is seeking who he can destroy. When in heaven he is the accuser of the brethren. It isn’t until Rev 12 that he is finally kicked out of heaven and not until the Rev 20 that he is thrown into the Lake of Fire. Jesus did NOT go to hell to be tormented by Satan. This teaching is simply not true, reduces Jesus to something other than God. In my opinion anyone that teaches it is himself in grave danger for his soul. They are at very least a false teacher. EdB |

5 | Did Jesus go to hell after dying? | Ephesians | ThomasTheNonDoubter | 26640
I never mentioned that Jesus was tormented by Satan. Your words again, not mine. I said to someone that Jesus had to go through the whole process that a sacrificial sheep went through, death, then on the alter with the fire. Since there is nothing about Jesus being on an alter on the surface being burned, He had to have gone to the 1st death, place of torment, which is hell. Then when Jesus had suffered enough, God rose Him up and Jesus took the keys of death and hell away from Satan and made a public specticle of him. Then He led captivity captive, which I interpret to mean got Abraham and the boys out of paradise and took them to heaven. If I'm wrong, please show me scriptures to correct my mistakes. I find these debates enjoyable. Causes me to look in my E-Sword constantly to defend the gospel.

Thomas This is made up, the atonement was done on the cross by the shedding of blood not by Jesus being tormented in Hell. Your right he was the Lamb of God and Hebrews 9:12-14 talks about Jesus the being the perfect sin sacrifice. Notice it speaks nowhere of burning. Your right sacrifices were consumed on the altar but they were dead and the fire was not torture but rather a way to consume the sacrifice. To assume Jesus would have to be burned either assumes He had to be consumed which He wasn’t or to be tortured which was never the case of sacrifice. Further you said Jesus got the keys of death and hell away from Satan. Where does it say Satan ever had the keys? If you notice in Job 1:12 Satan can do nothing without God’s permission. In fact God pointedly tells Satan he can not take Job’s life Job 2:6. Who does it sound like controls death God or Satan? Also notice in Job 1:12 the wording, God gives Satan power over Job. Your right in Eph 4:8 it does show that Jesus lead the Abraham and the boys (as you put it) but that was the only reason he went to hell for nothing else. I pray your learning this. EdB |
