1 | Holy Spirit, holy spirit, or both? | 1 Corinthians | PastorPaul | 49538
As I was reading over your post, and Reformer Joe’s post to you, I felt the Holy Spirit guiding me to add a little more information for you. The doctrine and views of Jesus Christ are not something that we can say: “Let’s agree to disagree on this.” In fact the correct view of Jesus Christ is necessary for one’s SALVATION. You refer to Almighty God, which implies to me you are coming from a Jehovah Witness View. Let me tell you a few things that the New World Translation failed to do to convince believers that Jesus Christ is not God Almighty. Realize that I’m coming from the view of a born-again, Jesus believing, Biblical Worldview. To respond to your statement I’m going to refer you to 14 verses in the Gospel of John, which points out to the very fact that Christ, Himself, claimed to be Jehovah. Please feel free to look these verses up, but please do not even bother putting them up against your Greek Lexicon, because your Greek Lexicon is the wrong Greek. 14 times in the Gospel of John Jesus Christ makes the statement, “I AM!” Which translated into Hebrew is Jehovah, or God Almighty. Please turn go to you Bible and read these following verses. Please first turn to John 4:25, 26. In this passage Jesus is talking to a Samaritan woman, and she says, “I know the Messiah is coming…” To this comment the Lord Jesus Christ gave a simple response in the English text, but in the original Greek text he said; “I AM!” Maybe that is not enough for you let’s go now to John 6:15-21. In this scripture Jesus sent his disciples to the sea to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. As the disciples are going to the other side of the sea they see Jesus walking on the water and they are afraid. In response to their fear the Lord Jesus Christ says: “Do not be afraid, I AM.” Once again we have another claim of Jesus being Almighty God. I could go on and on with these verses but let me just list for you several of the verses, and what they say: “I AM, the bread of life.” (Jhn. 6:35) It is interesting that in this scripture it’s followed by verse 41 which says: The Jews therefore were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I AM the bread that came down out of heaven.” The Jews were not grumbling because he claimed to be the bread that came down from heaven, they were grumbling because he said: “I AM!” He claimed to be Almighty God in the flesh. “I AM, the light of the world.” (Jhn. 8:12; 9:5) “I AM.” (Jhn. 8:28) “Before Abraham was born, I AM!” (Jhn. 8:58) Once again in verse 59 of this same chapter the Jews picked up stones to stone Him, why you ask because he claimed, “I AM” Almighty God. “I AM, the door of the sheep.” (Jhn. 10:7) “I AM, the good shepherd.” (Jhn. 10:11) “I AM, the resurrection and the life.” (Jhn. 11:25) “I AM, the way, the truth, and the life.” (Jhn. 14:6) “I AM, the true vine.” (Jhn. 15:1) In Jhn. 18 Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane and in verses 4-8 the Romans, and the Jews come to arrest Him. In verse 4 Jesus asks a question, “Whom do you seek?” The people respond that they seek Jesus, and he says in verse 5: “I AM”. Upon hearing this all the people fall face down. Why you ask, because what He said was, “I AM” “God Almighty." I can give you many verses that defend the claim of Christ to be God Almighty, will you receive them is a different question. You belief that you know it all, well I have Greek training, and I’m a minister for the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ, God Almighty, Yahweh, and Jehovah. I will pray that the Holy Spirit will manifest to you all truth. My friend, if you do not believe in Jesus Christ as God, than you are not saved, and we are not brothers. You are in my prayers, Paul Emery Pastor/Founder: Blue Bonnet Ministries |

2 | Holy Spirit, holy spirit, or both? | 1 Corinthians | Ray | 49583
Hi Pastor Paul, Welcome to the forum. I have tried to get people to look at the 14 "bread" words of John 6. Through the years I have found them good to meditate on in considering how we should regard this "son or Son of Joseph". John 6:42. The Jehovahs Witnessses deny the Deity of Christ and do not believe in the Trinity. Yet, I do not think that they are entirely wrong, just as we are not entirely correct, in everything. In their seeing God the Holy Spirit as just a power or force, we correctly try to educate them. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person and not an it. However, when we deny that there is no holy spirit I feel that we can be just as off base. Jesus was the Son of God, not a god, nor the son of God. That is my personal statement of capitalization as regards the Witnesses and their translation. But for the "bread" words of John that I want to look at with you, we can know that He was not the son of Joseph either but rather the Son of Joseph. You mention 14 "I am" verses. There are 14 verses containing the word "bread" also. The first seven are found in John 6:31-42. John 6:42, "And they were saying, 'Is this not Jesus, the son [sic] of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, 'I have come down from heaven?'" Jesus came in the flesh and was in the likeness of men but when we have communion it is not His flesh that we eat. He is manna that came down from heaven. Maybe I can search more and find where I asked my question about the breads and you could talk there, but please comment on how you might see the possibility of the "holy spirit" for us. I ask this since I asked the question on this part of the thread. When I first studied the bread words of John 6, I made the breads lower case and thought of Him as the son of Joseph, and the last seven Breads upper case to show that he was completely, perfectly God. Right now I have them all capitalized in my personal copy and think of Him as the Son of Joseph. What are your thoughts? From the heart, Ray |
