I believe one of the greatest diservices that the King James Version was the adding of one word that was not in the Greek manuscript they were using to arrive at their version. It is this verse 1Cor 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. (KJV) If you look in the KJV you will see that the word "gifts" is italicized, meaning that word was added. I wish I could put the Interlinear of this verse to show you that "gifts" is not in the manuscript but the program I'm using won't copy the verse in the Interlinear. Now the word just before "gifts" is the word "spiritual". The Strong's definition of spiritual is: 4152 pneumatikos (pnyoo-mat-ik-os'); from 4151; non-carnal, i.e. (humanly) ethereal (as opposed to gross), or (daemoniacally) a spirit (concretely), or (divinely) supernatural, regenerate, religious: Another definition could be spiritual matters or spiritual things. Paul is saying in that verse he doesn't want us to be ignorant in spiritual matters. Of which speaking in tongues is a spiritual matter. So you see how that one added word has distorted the entire holy spirit field? There's no more waiting because it is not a gift to be waited for. |

The word "charisma" ("gift")is not used in verse 1...you are correct. However, it is used in its plural form 5 times in 1 Corinthians 12 (verses 4, 9, 28, 30, 31), and context clearly shows that the word is applied to tongues as part of a larger list of gifts. It makes no sense whatsoever to remove tongues and tongues alone out of the list of things identified collectively as gifts. The whole chapter is about gifts, and that is why the word is added by most translators to verse 1. And, once again, by looking at 1 Corinthians 12:28-30, we see that God has appointed different roles to different people. He explicitly states that all do not speak in a tongue, due to God's appointment, just like all do not have gifts of healing or teaching or administration or miracles. Just out of curiosity, why don't you try "receiving" those other things on Paul's list? Try receiving the ability to perform miracles. A good resurrection or giving an amputee his legs back would convince us all that you are right about "the holy spirit field." The entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 12 is Paul's description of the division of gifts and labor within the body of Christ. Tongues was placed clearly on the list of things that some had and others did not. Only someone trying to proof-text a cherished false teaching would misinterpret Paul's epistle the way you have done. --Joe! |

I can say that I have operated all 9 of the manifestations in 1 Cor 12. If you understood how they worked you would know that it is not up to me to decide that I can heal anybody on my own. The instructions and power to do so are given by God. |

Why should I bother? You wouldn't believe me anyway. I would expect a Christian would be thrilled to know that the manifestations of the spirit are available and that great things of God happen when they are manifested. Instead I am greeted with hard heartedness. I will not respond to any more of your posts. | ||||||
