John Reformed: In your welcome address to new user Faithfolk, you said "we argue and debate all the time, but we really love each other." I point out to you, John Reformed, that this very afternoon the Lockman Foundation filtered three long threads that were mostly debates on Calvinism, and on all three of which you were the most active and most vocal user. Does that tell you anything, John Reformed? Simply put, if these debates are begun anew, the threads will be filtered again and the offenders very, very likely will lose their privilege to post on this forum. And by the way, EdB is not "picking on you" at all. He is saying to you what a number of other long-time users have been trying to say to you: Fish or cut bait, John. Get off this Calvinism debate track if you want to stay on this forum. Need we say more? And a P.S. regarding your remarks to the new user. This is NOT a forum designed for or one that permits unending denominational debates. It neither encourages nor long permits its users to "argue and debate all the time." It is, I say for the umpteenth time, a forum designed for and dedicated to the study of the Bible, not for stupid and pointless and endless debates about denominational differences. John, one final word, take it or leave it, but you would be wise to consider it: Stop debating or stop posting. --Hank

A Different View ......................................... Dear Hank, Kalos, and apparently large numbers of other colleagues here on the forum (and even possibly the Lockman Foundation themselves), It seems that there has been a “piling on” lately of the person named John Reformed, who relatively recently joined our Forum. As a long time participant here, I would like to say at least something in his defense. I do not believe that John Reformed should be banned from this forum at this time. I understand that many of my colleagues (who I respect greatly) are frustrated that such a large number of his posts seem to be proselytizing the Calvinist perspective of Christianity. However, is this so unusual on this forum. ......................................... If one did a search of the user name “Ray” and the word “capitalization”, you would find that an unusually high number of Ray’s posts regarding scriptures and subjects from all over the Bible are focused on this one theme of capitalization. If you looked at all the posts written by Tim Moran, you would find that he focuses a lot more on Greek and Hebrew translation than almost all other forum members. I do not say this to insult Ray (who I haven’t had much contact with but is well respected here) or Tim (who I have had significant thread sharing with, and consider to be a friend). I am merely making the point that each of us has our own particular interests that are what fire our participation here at the forum. And these interests naturally tend to color our perception of everything in scripture, and therefore all of our posts here. ......................................... Therefore, John Reformed, tendency is not that unusual on this forum. Nor is it anti-Christian. I disagree with his perspective, but it definitely falls within the category of orthodoxy, and is believed by very large numbers of our Christian brothers and sisters. This all being said, I have found my own discussion with John Reformed to be (at least up to this point) constructive. He seems to be well aware of scripture and uses it quite often. He seems to be intelligent and thinks about his posts thoroughly. He also has done an admirable job of keeping his focus on the subjects that he is discussing as opposed to insulting the person who he is discussing with. It seems to me that these are the some of the key attributes of a person who would be beneficial to have posting on this forum. ......................................... In conclusion, I would encourage you all to rethink your opposition to John Reformed, and give him the chance to hopefully, over time, share some thoughts on other issues, while not squelching the thing that seems to drive his interest. |

Sir Pent: The parsing of Greek and Hebrew words and phrases which Tim Moran frequently engages in is a genuine service to this forum. Perhaps no current user of the forum is so well equipped to do so as Tim. THIS IS NOT DIVISIVE. Ray likes to talk about capitalization with respect to scriptural references to Deity, and perhaps some may feel it is a trifle overdone, but IT IS NOT DIVISIVE. Our beloved user Cyclist opens and closes his every post with words of praise to Almighty God, but IT IS NEITHER DIVISIVE NOR OFFENSIVE. Sir Pent, what is divisive, disruptive and grows to be offensive is the unending, incessant, unproductive and stubborn practice of soap boxing and combative debating of a centuries-old ism, be it Calvinism or any other ism, on which the finest minds in Christendom have never been able to effect general agreement among themselves and, should this world stand for thousands of years hence, it is unlikely that some of these knotty issues will ever be resolved. The numbers of posts on Greek and Hebrew words and on capitalization pale into insignificance when they are viewed in juxtaposition with the numbers of posts on the Calvinism debates. Any disruption, divisiveness or ill will engendered by Tim's posts on linguistics, Ray's on capitaization, or Cyclist's on praise, if any do in fact exist, which I doubt very strongly, would be miniscule indeed in comparison to the damage that constant debate over controversial and potentially exposive issues that are highly charged with denominational bias exerts on this forum. It is patently unfair and inconsiderate to other members of this forum that any one of its users be allowed to plaster this forum day after day with little if anything more than a one-sided view of Scripture based entirely upon his own doctrinal bias or denominational tradition, no matter what that bias or that tradition may be. --Hank
