1 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | bill1973 | 190498
Hi Kalos, what i want to say is, in Malachi 3:6-10 the passage is telling us that the GOD we are serving is unchangeable GOD and he says we are robbing him in tithing and in offering. So if GOD says he is unchangeable and we decide not to pay tithe then we will be robbing HIM. Bill.

And IF we are still under the law of tithing because God doesn't change, then we are still obligated to obey the other 612 commands in the Law of Moses, are we not? You can't have it both ways. Grace to you, John |

3 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | miller521 | 194627
Tithe came before the law, the law came because of transgressions. Abraham tithed before the law was even made, which would be what, about 400 years? So we can't say that tithing is under the law, just like we can't say that not lying is under the law, the law showed up because of their transgressions. However, Jesus said that love fulfills all the law and prophets. So we can not categorize tithe as a law. Just something that we do to honor God, and not doing it, as he pointed out in Malachi, is robbing him. |

So do you think we should give of our sheeps and goats like Abraham and the storehouse was the temple. So since the temple has been torn down what temple are you talking about?

I believe we certainly should give the first part of all our increase, just like Abrham did, for him it would have been in livestock, for us today it would be paper money, though of course it could also be in giving some of what you are trained to do. Perhaps God would want a doctor to take his medical expertise and volunteer somewhere a time or two a month. But as for our increase, yes, we can use the example given to us by Abrham. As for the temple, our bodies are his temple, make sure you bring it to your local church, where God can direct your pastor to distribute where God sees fit. |

"Although Christians should not be encouraged to redirect their giving from their local churches completely, there also should not be any legalism involved in how and to whom money is given. So, if believers feel the need, and God's direction, to help ministries outside of their local churches, it would be hard to say that they are disobeying God's Word if they give as the Lord has directed them to give. Remember that God is concerned more with the attitude in giving than with the actual gift or designation of it." I don't understand what you are trying to ask me here about the Bible. Sorry!
8 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194694
You stated "So we can not categorize tithe as a law. Just something that we do to honor God, and not doing it, as he pointed out in Malachi, is robbing him." Browbeating is a type of force to control others and is not within the spirit of the attitude of cheerful giving. You may make some people feel guilty and they will give but they probably will not be doing it cheerfully but as a result of pressure and intimidation. "Luke 3:14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages." As has been stated in this post previously a dogmatic interpretation of this verse in Malachi causes offense and prejudges believers causing division and conflict. As I have pointed out as well as others there is an inhouse debate in christendom about this topic as you see in the article I posted. So please don't imply that those who do not hold to your interpretation are robbing God. That is not appropriate. As Hank reminded us, this is not a discussion forum so let each view stand as is. |

I can assure you, that I would rather someone keep their money and use it for their own selfish purposes, than to give into the local church and not be cheerful about it. I have never, nor will ever condone forcing people to give. Just like you can't force them to give their heart to JEsus, you also can't force a man to have a love and respect for his creator. However, if someone gets offended from the fact that the Bible has said not bringing tithes into the storehouse is robbing God, well then they can just get offended. Just like I won't rip out the scriptures that tell us certain lifestyles will not inherit the kingdom of God, that offends a lot of people too, even 'christians' at times. But we can't water down the Word to keep people happy. |
