Dear Sister, Greetings from Japan in Jesus' name! As has been pointed out, assembling together is important! "...and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." Hebrews 10:24,25 NASB Christians gathering together for sharing the Gospel encourages us to a common goal. Read Philippians chapter one to see that Paul is instructing believers to 'confirm and defend' the Gospel. True, the lost need Jesus! But the 'found' need Good News, too! This is called the 'building up' of the body in Ephesians 4:1-16. Another reason for the local church is that you be under authority. You wrote "that everyone's walk with God is very personal and very secret." While there are aspects of Jesus' love for you that are personal, no one is called to be a 'Lone Ranger' vigilante for God. "...and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ." Ephesians 5:21 NASB "Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you." Hebrews 13:17 NASB Sister, it is true that you CAN know God without the church, you CANNOT grow in God, and serve Him fully while denying His body. You may be a great hand or foot or elbow, but without the rest of the body, you are an ineffectual organ. Not 'worthless!' But ineffectual at best. Peace also to you in Christ Jesus, charis |
