Dear jetti9876, (Good answer from TheFinalSQL) There is an old law stating: (Deu 22:5 KJV) The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. But we are not under the law. But, the respective positions between men and women are still in effect that God has setup from the beginning. The man will be the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. (Eph 5:23 KJV) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. This has to do with the station of preeminence in the scheme of things that God has designed. Not saying that man is better than woman. It is the order of hierarchy God has put into place. Any rebuttal to this will have to be taken up with Him. The rest of your question would have to do with the society and social standards or the nationality of your tribe. The main ingredient would have to do with respect. You wouldn't go to the doctor in your dirty clothes and since your Father in Heaven should be your most important figure, it would behoove you to be well dressed out of respect to His House. You are entering into a Holy place and it would be in the best of taste to present yourself the best you can. All of this is done out of respect, but a willing heart would be more respected by our Father in Heaven no matter what you wore. Peace terrib |

Brothers and Sisters In Christ..... Im new here and would like to weigh in on this subject as it is of particular intrest to me. Ill not quote much scripture but leave it plainly said that Jesus and Paul warned of offenses that would cause anyone to stumble would have serious consequence. I think that our faith need not be only blind but intellectual as well. God gave you common sense and a token sense of discernment. I think the question is most readily answered by a question; As you dress to attend church, stand in the mirror and ask yourself..."Could what Im wearing cause someone to stumble?" If you can honestly say that you don't know, wear it and if you ever detect someone looking repeatedly at you or observing you below the neck therin is your answer. Use other ways to test it, would I wear this in front of my father? Would I let my daughter wear this? We need to "police" our own selves to make sure that purity and modesty are at a Godly level in our place of worship. If anything you wear or do is as such that it causes people to put there attention on you instead of the Lord than take a look at yourself and fix it. As far as the man being he head of his wife (and the doctrine of wifely submission thereof) even as Christ is head of the church, let us realize that Christ submitted himself to the church (his bride) unto death, the ultimate expression of submission. Wow, this is the first time I've engaged... amazing! What everyone's said is great. I've heard it's as if we all sit around a giant diamond, and no one can see our dimension, so we share w/ oneanother and get a complete picture of the diamond... and it is the Holy Spirit who teaches and opens our eyes. Anyway, I think it's important to note that man sees the outside of a man and judges him/her thus. However, the LORD GOD sees the heart, and He judges the inward (and of courses our actions). God is not a respecter of persons, nor is He impressed with nice clothes, pretty hair, and beautiful skin. God looks upon him who is contrite in heart and broken in spirit. He desires to have fellowship with us, which requires us to honor Him and not quench His HOLY Spirit. Maybe when we get dressed for "church" or any other thing, we should ask your Heavenly Father if our clothing honors Him... and if it will cause anyone else to stumble (as someone already said). If we want His honest answer, I'm convicted He'll show us. He loves us, friends. Relavent Scriptures I Peter 3.3-4 "Your adornment must not be (merely) external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but (let it be) the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." Psalm 51.17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." Matt 23.27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." I Samuel 16.7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1 Chronicles 28.9 "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts..." Luke 16.15 And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God." |
