Subject: How to dress when attending church |
Bible Note: Wow, this is the first time I've engaged... amazing! What everyone's said is great. I've heard it's as if we all sit around a giant diamond, and no one can see our dimension, so we share w/ oneanother and get a complete picture of the diamond... and it is the Holy Spirit who teaches and opens our eyes. Anyway, I think it's important to note that man sees the outside of a man and judges him/her thus. However, the LORD GOD sees the heart, and He judges the inward (and of courses our actions). God is not a respecter of persons, nor is He impressed with nice clothes, pretty hair, and beautiful skin. God looks upon him who is contrite in heart and broken in spirit. He desires to have fellowship with us, which requires us to honor Him and not quench His HOLY Spirit. Maybe when we get dressed for "church" or any other thing, we should ask your Heavenly Father if our clothing honors Him... and if it will cause anyone else to stumble (as someone already said). If we want His honest answer, I'm convicted He'll show us. He loves us, friends. Relavent Scriptures I Peter 3.3-4 "Your adornment must not be (merely) external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but (let it be) the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." Psalm 51.17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." Matt 23.27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." I Samuel 16.7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1 Chronicles 28.9 "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts..." Luke 16.15 And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God." |
