1 | Is asking for money false? | 2 John 1:10 | NewCovenant7777 | 143744 | ||
Greetings Doc, "seems" being the operative word. Only the Holy Spirit can reveal to you the truth and how He works. My explaining obviously doesn't open one's ears or eyes. He that hath ears, let Him hear... "Sell All" Scriptures: Matt 13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 2 Matt 19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." 4 Mark 10:21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." Acts 2:45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Does Jesus/God contradict Himself or perhaps you don't have ears? Or at best your hearing is severely diminished, and selling all is the only cure. ***Please read John 6 when Jesus spoke of "eating His flesh and drinking His Blood", it appears to me you are in the same camp as the disciples who didn't follow Jesus any more when they found out the cost and they were exposed by their "blind and deafness" to who Jesus was and what He was saying when He said "eat my flesh and drink my blood" and when He said, "sell all".(Just a thought) I don't say any of this to be mean, but again as the Scripture says, "they have eyes, but don't see, and ears, but they don't hear". Jesus told people to sell all and no where do I see He said, "just kidding", or did He run after them begging or offering a more "palatable choice" of saying "ask ME into your heart/sinner's prayer." (the angel of light does that... father of lies!!!) I hope this Scripture identifies you: 2 Pet 1:9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. "Short sighted is better than being "no-sighted". Please read all of 2Peter 1. Pay particular attention to 1:3 where it speaks of the "divine power". Who is that "divine power", and how do we get it/HIM? It is Christ Jesus, our only hope of glory, flowing "all good things" through our crucified souls, amen and amen. How do we get this power/Christ? Sell all! Be crucified!! Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life,... right?. Verses 6 and 7 in 2Peter 1 also speak of "goodness". Where or from Whom does this Goodness come from? Please read Luke 18:19(We are all the Rich Young Ruler or at least "Wannabees"), and tell me who is Good? Jesus, right? Ok, where did the Holy Spirit lead Jesus? To His Cross? Where does the Holy Spirit lead us? To our cross, "take up your cross and follow me"...again "selling all". Again, "he that hath ears let him hear". I hope this has helped, it if hasn't, then there is not much else I can do(not that I could do anything anway...NO ONE cometh unto the Father, but the Spirit draweth them")... and where did the Spirit lead Jesus? Awwww, and where did the Spirit lead Jesus in Luke 4(The temptation by the devil?) Please read it and observe the fact Jesus "rejected everything of this world and the "prince of it".(Also, recall Solomon, the wisest man in the world said evrything of this world is "meaningless/vanity") So, Jesus was an Example of "selling all"...amen and amen...ONLY The Truth will set you FREE! Are you "really" free??? Seek the Lord and you will find HIM, "if you are willing to sell all."...unless Jesus isn't the same y-day, today, and forever? ...or unless He, The Word of God, is dead? Remember the angel of light "makes a way seem right to a man", but that way ends in destruction. Again, my hope is that this isn't the case with you, or anyone that read this, however, either Jesus just said things or He meant what He said...again, "he that hath ears let Him hear..." I have shared truth, whether you receive it or not, is between you and God. If you have any "further sincere" questions about "selling all", I will be happy to answer them and share scripture, but I will not debate "this obvious truth" any more...( I say this with soberness, not anger.) ***Also, Please understand "I resisted "selling all" for 38 2/3 years... Crucified in HIM, Luis |

That's quite a response. I think you attached it to the wrong message. My question to you is how does "Selling all", using the definition of "all" that you are using address the comment in John 20:10? "So the disciples went away again to their own homes." Can I assume the disciples sold "all" or not? Does "all" include homes? Please do not take me as attacking or sarcastic. I am curious and an investigative type. From my readings of various commentaries, it would seem to me that "all" really means "all surplus and worldly profits". I would assume that if Jesus sold the clothes on his back (an extreme definition of "all"), that it would have been noted or commented on. I can only assume, therefore, that he kept the clothes on his back. His disciples had homes. Not a home for the disciples, but homes (plural). Unless they bought their homes after the crucifixion, Jesus must have known about them. Jesus would have also commented on them when he returned. When Jesus commented about the poor woman giving so little at the temple. Jesus said she gave a greater gift than the rich man who gave more (in coin as opposed to percentage of wealth.) Jesus did not chastise the woman for not giving all. From my study, I believe that Jesus wants us to "give until it hurts", not "live off of the (so-called) Christians who have not taken and sold all so that we (real) Christians who have divested ourselves of ALL can be closer to Jesus." Nope, Jesus was about giving, sharing, and helping our fellow man - friend or enemy. How can one help our fellow men if we have nothing to give but words? We cannot share our fish and loaves of bread if we have none because we have "sold all". The system does not work if all Christians "sold all". This whole thread was created to help me find a verse that would lead me to the prior verse about charity and welcoming fellow Christians into our homes and our dinner table. Jesus was all about sharing, and not just words about heaven. He shared bread and fish, staples of this world's existence. To do that, he either had to have something himself or he had to acquire those somethings from people who did not accept his teachings (in the extreme definition you are using.) That said, unless Christianity is a pyramid scheme where each new convert is to sell all and give the earnings to pay the last set of new believers, the system will fall down and collapse. For the last set of new believers must rely on the generosity of someone and the older believers have nothing left since they sold all before. I highly doubt that Jesus meant for us to do this. There would have been better instructions. Looking back at this post, I realize it is pretty extreme in its point of view. I wish not to offend. Unfortunately, I cannot see anyway to address an extreme stance of "sell all" without following the logic to a reasonable conclusion. Pray, forgive me. |
