1 | What qualifies as "heresy"? | 2 Pet 3:9 | Reformer Joe | 81358
"I have been told more than once that since I view Calvinism as totally heretical I have to be Arminianistic." How do you define the word "heresy"? Please define it in such a way that historically-held Reformation theology could be considered heresy. Then please explain how modern-day Pentecostalism and pretributlational dispensationalism could not fall into that category, using the same criteria. While I hold these two things to be wrong interpretations of Scripture, I would not consider them "heresy." So, what is your criteria for slapping the "heresy" label on a particular system of doctrine? "However I view Arminianism as equally aberrant." That's news. On what points? --Joe! |

2 | What qualifies as "heresy"? | 2 Pet 3:9 | EdB | 81383
Joe Is there any point to continuing this? No matter what I say you will disagree. Your admittedly a Calvinist, you view it as valid theology. I however view it aberant Christianity. If I thought for a minute you would consider my reasons I would list them. But after many appends on this subject I know that will not happen. The point I was making was because I disagree with Calvinism I was labeled as Arminianist which I'm not. Now if you don't believe that read your last sentence, which also shows you have never listened to my point of view. EdB |

Then stop throwing the word "heresy" around unless you are willing to clarify what you think the term means, and how the Protestant Reformers qualify as heretics. --Joe! |

4 | What qualifies as "heresy"? | 2 Pet 3:9 | EdB | 81393
Joe I never said a thing about Protestant Reformers. Your surely not saying Calvinism is representative of the Protestant reformation. Besides I said I would retract the word heresy. Now can we have peace? EdB |

Hi EdB, When it comes to belaboring the point about Calvinist and Arminianist, this saying sure fits. Someone once said that, "We learn from experience that we learn nothing from experience." Scripture isn’t discovered it’s revealed and we aren’t going to convince anyone since that isn’t our ministry; maybe they Lord wants it that way for whatever reason, I don’t know? I had witnessed to a neighbor, I don’t know how many times, and he even sat in on some of my Bible studies, on salvation, without responding. He moved away from our neighborhood and several years later stopped by the house and talked to my wife. He explained to my wife that he had been saved and wondered why we never told him about God’s plain of salvation, my wife’s mouth dropped open; oh well, hearing they don’t hear, it’s all in the Lord’s good time. A man that’s persuaded against his will is a man that’s unpersuaded still. Well, with that little ditty, do you think I will hear from the C. camp? Food for thought but I won't argue the point, CDBJ |
