Hi, Ray! "live according to God in the Spirit" I know that this passage seems clear cut... but if we live according to God in the Spirit (meaning the Holy Spirit), I would definetely emphasize the S... if we live according to God in the spirit (meaning as spiritual beings), no, since the base meaning would revolve around the creature and not the Creator! "I know of no Scripture that talks about God's Holy Spirit, however." However, there are many Scriptural passages that do speak on the Spirit of God (a few ex: Romans 8:9, 14; 1 Corinthians 2:10, 11, 12, 14; 3:16); I may had added the word Holy... that is just the way I see it: God is Holy! ""Your holy Servant Jesus," Since the direct reference here is Christ, I would capitalize Holy and Servant, and Anointed--we are all called to be holy, but we are not the Holy One; we are all called to be servants, but we are not the Servant of God; we are all called to be anointed by the Holy Spirit, but there's but one Anointed One! (You, of course, is a direct pronoun referencing God, so it is automatically emphasized!) "Who and/or what is going to help us make these decisions?" Personally, if I had the resources I would commission a special Bible edition that would incorporate much of the capitalization that you and I have been speaking on; I would also take into consideration certain phrases/words (Maran atha, El, El Saddai, Paraclete, Amen...) which, to me, have very profound meanings; this version would include as much built-in concordance (which facilitates cross reading and comparison) and a comprehensive historical dictionary... ...much, I am afraid, is open to individual preference... I mean: if the word God or any name of God (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is not capitalized... I take offense! However, if only adjectives or pronouns, other than personal pronouns, are not capitalize... I can ignore it or emphasize the capitalization on my own! God Bless! Angel |

Hi Angel, Thanks for getting me back to this thread, because I had meant to speak to my statement that "I know of no Scripture that talks about God's Holy Spirit." Your references that you gave me do not have those words. And I do not wish to add any words to the verses even though God and the Spirit are always Holy in our minds. I am interested in capitalization of Deity but I am also interested in counting the occurances; thus I do not want to take away or add to any passage. However, I wanted to express the fact that although "God's Holy Spirit" is not to be found anywhere, "His Holy Spirit" is found in Isaiah 63:10 and 11 and "Thy Holy Spirit" is found in Psalm 51:11. 1) I don't agree with you on the capitalization of Holy, Servant, and Anointed but I will start a new thread on Acts 2 and we can discuss it more there. 2) "Who and/or what is going to help us make these decisions?" I believe that the Holy Spirit witnessing with our spirit will bring about the right decisions for capitalization. I would like to see the NASB and the NKJ working together on a new interpretive Bible. From the heart, Ray |
