1 | Eternal Security is it possible? | 2 Tim 1:12 | Robert Nicholson | 54069 | ||
Eternal Security reflects God's ability to save us first of all and to keep us for eternity. Paul could say with a note of triumph: "I know whom I have believed" Paul does not cite his own personal faithfulness as the reason he feels secure; No! rather he focuses on "I have believed" A statement was made on another post "that only the faithful go to heaven" this suggesting that those who have believed could through their own unfaithfulness somehow be denied the eternal promise of the living Christ "I give unto them eternal life and they shall never Perish" John 10 Peter reminds us "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" ( 1 Peter 1:18-19) Redeemed ! how I love to proclaim it. Only those who are redeemed will be in heaven. We were sold under sin, we were sinners by birth, by practice and by choice. We could not free ourselves from sin except through the precious blood of Christ. The work was absolutely his; nothing I could do before I was saved or after I am saved could contribute in any way to the work which Christ accomplished on the cross. Three words from the cross from our saviour summerized it all "It is Finished!" A lamb without blemish would remind us of his purity when he came into this world. Without spot reminds of the life which he lived before his father and humankind, a perfect life with no sin. This was the one who paid the debt that was required to redeem us. He satisfied God by his sacrifice and when we place our faith in him we are forgiven and we are set free. Eternal security, does it exist? Absolutely it rests upon the work of Christ and his promises regarding those who will accept his work as the only way to be saved. He is the keeper of our souls. To suggest that we can lose such a gift is an insult to God himself. Fellow Christain rejoice that your sins are forgiven. Robert |

For those who care to consider this topic from a logical paradigm, these verses should help: Heb 2:1 2:1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. NAS James 1:12 12Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. NAS John 3:35-36 36"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." NAS Heb 5:9 9And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, NAS Heb 3:12-19 12Take care, brethren, lest there should be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, in falling away from the living God. 13But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end; 15while it is said, "Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked Me." 16For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? 17And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom did He swear that they should not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief (disobedience). NAS 2 Peter 2:20-22 20For if after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A dog returns to its own vomit," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire." NAS James 5:19-20 19My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth, and one turns him back, 20let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins. NAS He 10:26-31 26For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge His people." 31It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NAS Jude 3-5 3Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. 5Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. NAS ROM 11:17-24 17But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, 18do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. 19You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." 20Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; 21for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you. 22Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. 23And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again. 24For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more shall these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
