1 | Turning to sin after salvation | Eph 2:8 | BradK | 98577
december, The issue you deal with is the Eternal Security of the believer! To give a specific answer is nearly impossible given the hypothetical nature of your question. There are only two possibilities. Do you know someone in particular who falls into this category? A lot depends on one's view of salvation. With that given, my answer is yes! If that person is truly regenerate and has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, absolutely. Based upon Eph. 2:8-9 and Titus 3:5, etc. However, the better question to consider is why would a believer in accord with Titus 2:11-12, foresake God's unmerited Grace? 1 Corinthians 6:11 says,"...and such WERE some of you." You can't out-sin God (Rom.5:20). A true believer would also be in disregard of the entire argument of Romans 6. The bottom line is this: WHY would a believer, accepted by God, loved unconditionally, completely forgiven, made the righteousness of God, and sanctified, continue to behave in such a manner? 2 | Turning to sin after salvation | Eph 2:8 | New Creature | 98872
BradK This advice ignores Scripture which clearly says; Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, not idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor theives, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kindom of God. (1 Cor. 6:9-10) Many times I see where those that believe in the "Eternal Security" theory turn God's grace into a license to sin. Grace does not give us license to sin, and still retain belief that we are heaven bound. Rom. 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Jude verse 4 warns about those who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality This sounds like the same advice that I hear being spewed from liberal main-line denominations like the United Methodist's and others. New Creature, I must respectfully disagree with your portrayal and conclusion of my offered advice:-( Nowhere did I say nor mean to imply that grace is a license to sin! It is not(Gal.5:13). I'll state for the record as one who believes in "Eternal Security" that I most certainly do not and I know of no one personally who holds to such a careless doctrine as promoting God's grace as "license to sin". I believe that Titus 2:11-12 CLEARLY tells us otherwise and would be my stance: "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,..." I assure you that your conjectures are not the case, nor are they warranted. In trying to be decent to such a careless response as yours' was, may I suggest in the spirit of love that we just agree to disagree on this matter? Eph. 4:3 my brother "with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." 4 | Turning to sin after salvation | Eph 2:8 | New Creature | 98935
BradK Thank you for your reply It just appeared to me that your advice in this instance promoted a life-style of sin. And I personally believe that being a Christian is not merely a label but a life-style. The person who is a born-again Christian will sense the Holy Spirit's conviction for sin. This conviction in the believer's life should bring remorse, and the felt need to confess that sin to God, and ask Him for the power and strength to turn away from any known sin, so that fellowship can be restored. The Christian who persists in what he knows is sin, is not walking in the light and is out of fellowship with Christ Jesus, and is not being cleansed by the blood by which fellowship can be restored. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If a person thinks he can remain in a chosen life-style of sin and still be in fellowship with Christ, then that person deceives himself and gives evidence that he is not a Christian. The church is to tolerate everything but sin in the life of those who profess to have a saving relationship with the Savior And we are to rebuke those who sin 1 Tim. 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. Now if I misunderstood your advice or motive, I apologize. But once again your advice appeared to give license to sin. Another "Eternal Security" teacher that your probably familar with also gives the same license to sin. "When you are born again by the grace of Almighty God,...It doesn't make any difference how wicked and how vile you act." (Charles Stanley) (Eternal Security You Can Be Sure) (Part 2, Tape #4, RH190 "You can sin like the devil down here and... you won't lose your salvation." (Charles Stanley) in his audio tape #3, MH190 Now I hope you don't also agree with these unBibical statements of Stanley's which also promote license to sin as well. Grace to you New Creature |
