The 'rapture' is NOT scriptural, it is a doctrine of men. 1Thess 4:16 is addressed to 'Christians' who are concerned regarding those who had "fallen asleep in Jesus", v13-14. The living Christians will not precede the dead Christians, because they will be raised first, when the Lord descends from Heaven, v15-16. In verse 17 both the living and raised Christians will "meet the Lord in the air", not on earth. And will be with Him forever. There will only be ONE resurrection of the dead, John 5:28-29. ALL who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgement". ONE resurrection of ALL the dead, not two resurrections. |

Derdan From where did Jesus ascend? What did the angel tell those that watched Jesus ascend? What is Zech 14:4 talking about? The second coming of Jesus will be when Jesus' feet touches the Mount of Olives and the mountain splits. So if that is the second coming then what is 1 Thess 4:16 talking about since it is describing an event that is completely different than Zech 14:4? Since we can identify the second coming in the Zech 14:4 1 Thess has to be describing something different than the second coming. What could it be? Let’s look. The dead will rise and then the living will rise and meet Jesus in the air. Since there is no mistaking the wording we have to assume the saints in Christ are going to meet Jesus separate than from what we know to be the second coming. That event was named the rapture. That is the facts and nothing but the facts. EdB |
