Hi Pastor Glenn, Matthew 13:15, "'For the heart of this people has become dull, And with their ears they scarcely hear, And they have closed their eyes Lest they should see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And (I) should heal them.' But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears because they hear." John 9:40, "Those of the Pharisee who were with Him heard these things, and said to Him, "We are not blind too, are we?" (Jesus) said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, 'We see', your sin remains." Pastor Glenn, may I suggest that you use a version that capitalizes Deity in your studies. I can go with "God is a Spirit" but I could not go on and says that we "must worship him in spirit and truth." If He is a Spirit, then acknowledge Him as such. I hope that you receive that thought in the spirit that I expressed it. From the heart, Ray |

Ray, You quote Matthew 13:15 and John 9:40 without any comments. You also said: "Pastor Glenn, may I suggest that you use a version that capitalizes Deity in your studies. I can go with "God is a Spirit" but I could not go on and says that we "must worship him in spirit and truth." If He is a Spirit, then acknowledge Him as such." I looked up these scriptures in 3 different versions. They all fail to capitalize spirit here. I see this as a discription of His spirit nature, as opposed to a physical nature. So I see no problem here. The KJV is what I used, it said "God is a Spirit...". However, when it says that we "must worship him in spirit and truth.", it refers to "our" spirit (lower case) nature. NASB: John 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. John 4:24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." KJV: Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. NIV: 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." Hi Pastor Glenn, The comment that I would make for Matthew 13:15 is that I see the quote from Isaiah as talking about the Spirit. The Spirit should heal them; and the disciples were given eyes that saw and ears that heard. Matthew 13:17, "For truly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see [it]; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear [it]." John 9:40, "Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things, and said to Him, "We are not blind too, are we?" (Jesus) said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, 'We see', your sin remains." The Pharisee thought that they saw everything clearly. They did not see the need for the (Light) of the world. They did not know that they were blind and that (Jesus) could heal them. Parentheses for comparison. Isaiah 42:16, "And (I) will lead the blind by a way they do not know, In paths they do not know I will guide them." May the Lord lead us. May the Lord lead us in this passage of John 4. This has been for me one of the most difficult passages to spiritually discern. I sense that I am close to my "final draft" as I would see it. The problem is that it would conflict with your statement that "in spirit and truth" refers to "our" spirit nature. But good night for now. From the heart, Ray |
