Brian.g- First, a true Christian should create an environment that would cause people to desire to come into the Christian faith, espescially a mature Christian. Sometimes new Christians are so on fire that they rely a lot on self and not on God in telling about their faith. We are to spread the Gospel, but not to overpower or shake the unbeliever into acceptance. I know, I've been there. Secondly, I don't believe anyone who calls himself a Christian has the right to cut down any other denomination. There are many denominations with the same basic belief (that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and salvation is only through faith in what He has done and by asking HIm to be Lord of your life and to repent of your sins)- merely different "frosting". But if a person is unfulfilled in the denomination they belong to, I don't believe it is wrong to tell him why you are satisfied with the church you belong to. This can be done without "cutting down" the other's denomination. I believe there are differences in the ways of worship to fit people's different comfort zones. Third, if you have truly put your faith in Christ, you have the witness of the Spirit that it is true. Recruiting is a bad choice of words. When I share my faith, I am not trying to "recruit". But if I have the opportunity to share with those of a cult or a religion that doesn't have the true facts of Jesus, I want to know what he believes so I can point out the truth that I know. I think it all boils down to love. If the reason you are reaching out to non-Christians or those who say they are but are unchurched, if you are doing it to feather your hat, your motives are wrong. If you do it because you love as Christ does, it will show. God bless- Debbie Now if the church they are going to are not teaching biblical truths (cults, etc.),yes, scripture should be pointed out to them. The Holy Spirit will guide them, if they are willing. |

Debbie The people potentially lost are those who are searching for a relationship with God, and have not fully found it through Jesus - but are trying to within a Christian church. I intentionally used the word recruit, because I am focusing the question on one Christian denomination trying to draw new membership directly from another Christian denomination. This is not witnessing to a non-Christian or reaching out to an unchurched. If I say to you, my denomination is a better way, I am, without saying another word, declaring that your denomination is inferior to mine. If you try my denomination and then move on - will your relationship with Jesus be strong enough to keep you within the Christian community. Would you be lost anyway? Or did I contribute to your being lost by adding dissatisfaction? Brian |
