1 | Aren't we in the age of GRACE? | Rom 8:28 | ngkh | 141160 | ||
Hi Doc, Allow me to share some thoughts about my understanding of grace. If I'm not wrong or if I understood a Pastor's message correctly according to Romans 8:1-4, as we have faith in God, so shall He have the holy spirit in us to guide us. Thus the holy spirit in us will sort of take over and therefore we will not live according to the sinful nature. For e.g. the following was my experience. Before I came to the Lord, at times when I was presented the bill after a meal, I noticed that the restaurant had left some items out. Did I call the waiter to inform him of the error. I am ashamed to admit that I quickly paid the bill and thought how lucky I was. However, same scenarios happened again now after being a christian. With no hesitation, I have always informed the waiter of the error and paid what ever is due. Was I afraid of the law? I don't think so. The law was never in my mind. I believe the holy spirit in me told me to do what is right. By living in the age of grace, I believe it means that the holy spirit is in us now when we believe and by Jesus blood, even when I have sinned in the past, I've got a clean slate the moment I said my sinners prayer and by growing in Him, the holy spirit will dwell in me that I no longer have to think about the law for as Paul had said the law shall have no dominion over me. Question is, do I truly believe that the holy sprit is in me? I believe it does. But then again, why am I at times questioned God when I believe that the spirit is in me? If I questioned God which means my faith level is only at this height, does it mean that the spirit I have is only in my head? I don't know. Perhaps Pastor Glen will be kind to help me out on this. As per my church's theme for this year. "Grow yourselves to grow others". I wondered on how on earth do I grow. After 18 months, I still have yet to read the bible from cover to cover and there are so much things I want to comprehend. |

Very good, ngkh... Your awakened conscience is a sign of God's work in you (John 15:2, Rom 7:4, 1 Tim 1:5). The law is not an evil thing at all that we should fear it (Rom 7:7). It is a valuable instructor. The Holy Spirit is, indeed, a great source of power and hope (2 Tim 1:7). He is the seal (guarantor) of our salvation (Eph 1:13). I praise God for how you are growing! He is awesome in what He does! I encourage you not to think of the power being in "the sinner's prayer." Indeed, there is no saving power in prayer nor anything that we can do. God brought you to life (we call this regeneration, Titus 3:5). After giving you life, you are able to respond in belief and submission. A great example is the story of Lazarus (see John 11). Lazarus was dead. Lazarus couldn't pray. Lazarus couldn't speak or act. (Dead people can't do anything.) Therefore, when Christ called, Lazarus would not be able to respond. So, what had to occur, was *before* the call of Christ, the Spirit of God entered into the tomb and did two things: (1) healed Lazarus from that which killed him and (2) brought him back to life. Thus, Lazarus could hear the command and respond to it. The hardest part of the job was something God did. That is how it is with you (and all of us who are saved). God had to do a work (John 6:29) -- a great, mighty, miraculous work (Heb 4:10) -- in you before you could even hear His call or respond in any way (John 6:44). Because of this, you can't say, "Well, at least I had the good sense to pray the sinner's prayer." :-) No, had God not done the work, you wouldn't have had any reason to pray or even to want to pray. The real cool thing about all of this, is that God had it planned from the beginning (Eph 1:4)! How much He loved you -- even before you existed! :-) Pastor Glenn, thank you for your patience in letting me respond to our brother's comments. You know me... I just have to cross T's and dot I's. :-) In Him, Doc |

Yeap, God is good to me. I felt His lead from the 1st day the seed was planted. I get answers almost immediately in the strangest ways via scriptures when I tried to fight. Incidents that I put off as coincidences initially were too much for me to ignore. Incidents that fall into place one by one that finally lead me to sinners prayer. I really know what God's timing means. Thank you all for all the sharing. Learned a lot these few days of postings. God Bless. |
