1 | Can we live life without sinning? | Rom 6:12 | DocTrinsograce | 209254
Hi, Tim... The teaching of entire sanctification (moral perfectionism) -- i.e., the ability to live this life righteously by (1) avoiding evil words, deeds, affections, and thoughts; and (2) by never omitting the slightest righteous word, deed, affection, or thought -- is a condition for which I earnestly and deeply anguish every day. Nevertheless, I have yet to meet anyone who has perfectly kept even the first and great commandment, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37). Poor John Wesley and Charles Finney were a million miles from such a state, and more's the pity. There seemed to be a glimmer of hope for sinless perfectionism with Charles Parham, but that clearly fizzled. I'd love to meet just one person who has gone a week without sinning, in the complete Biblical sense -- just one week! Nevertheless, hope in human beings always fails. In the earnest pursuit of the true holiness of the Word, we keep our eyes on the One who authored and who will perfect our faith. For we have the wonderful promise of Matthew 5:6. "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly trust in Jesus’ Name." In Him, Doc |

2 | Can we live life without sinning? | Rom 6:12 | Morant61 | 209270
Greetings Doc! Certainly, if we were to base our doctrine on our experience, we would probably all despair of every living above sin. :-( Fortunately, we have the objective teaching of Romans 6 to inform us and do not need to rely upon experience. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Can we live life without sinning? | Rom 6:12 | DocTrinsograce | 209271
Dear Tim, So, what you are saying is that the doctrine of moral perfectionism is based in Scripture, although never exemplified in the lives of believers? Hmmm... all the other blessings of salvation are subjectively and objectively either experienced or observable. How odd that such a significant teaching would be remain unexperienced and undemonstrated. That certainly would make it a pretty unique doctrine. In Him, Doc |

4 | Can we live life without sinning? | Rom 6:12 | Morant61 | 209297
Greetings Doc! So, are you saying that our experience should determine our doctrine? What does Romans 6 say about sin? By the way, notice that this is not narrative, but didactic teaching. Rom. 6:2b - "...We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" Rom. 6:6 - " For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin." Rom. 6:11 - "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." Rom. 6:12 - "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires." Rom. 6:14 - " For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. " Rom. 6:17 - "But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." Rom. 6:20 - "When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness." Rom. 6:22 - "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life." These verses are quite clear in what they are saying. Should I ignore these clear teachings of Scripture simply because of experience? But, having said that, I have known many believers over the years who have demonstrated evidence of sanctification. Yet, even if they had not, I would not base my doctrine on experience. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Tim, You wrote, "So, are you saying that our experience should determine our doctrine?" :-) Well, at least I'm learning a few flaws that moral perfectionism does NOT proscribe. :-) You wrote, "Should I ignore these clear teachings of Scripture simply because of experience?" Along the lines of my post to lookin: all I can earnestly and honestly say is: Go for it! The proof is in the pudding, as they say. More proof for you, of course, than it is for me. However, if this hermeneutic provides you with the reason and affords the means, then your life is consequentially required to reflect it. I am sincere in my wish that your doctrine manifests itself in what the old divines used to call "experimental Christianity." In Him, Doc |

6 | Can we live life without sinning? | Rom 6:12 | HH2 | 209312
I believe the bible makes it clear that it's impossible for man to live without sinning. "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." This is the reason why we must kill this "flesh daily" through repentence as man is unable to remove the stain of sin ourselves. Paul said "I die daily" and I thank Christ Jesus for the ability to do so.

stjohn- as you are in apparent agreement with the statements of HH2, and he has not as yet responded (though it's still early) would you help me understand what he/she is saying and the Scriptural support? Thanks, Jeff |
