1 | Show me scripture that says we can sin | Acts 15:11 | EdB | 143071
Are we getting caught up in a snare set by the adversary? My first understanding of a Christian was person that came to saving grace in Christ as a repentant sinner. There were repentant liars, repentant murders, repentant thieves, repentant adulterers, repentant horse thieves, all had fallen short but had repented and turned to Christ for salvation. Today we try to define Christians as anyone the believes in Christ, they can be liars, murders, thieves, adulterers, horse thieves, anyone that falls short but has come to Christ for salvation. We neglect one word repentant. The definition of repentant is some one demonstrating repentance. The definition of repentance is the process of repenting. The definition of repenting is the process of changing ones thinking based on the regret of having committed past sins. To abjure or recant past sins, to turn away from. Is repentance necessary for salvation? My Bible says it is! Jesus said we must repent. Peter in his first two sermons said we must repent. Repentance and the need for repentance is woven all through the New Testament. Now the question really becomes does a truly repentant person willfully and with forethought continue to lie, commit murder, steal, commit adultery, and steal horses? Can you show me in scripture where it says that? And further can anyone show me in scripture where is says a Child of God washed in the blood can continue to sin with impunity? |

2 | Show me scripture that says we can sin | Acts 15:11 | HisEmpress | 143072
According to Acts 15:11, we are saved by Grace. Grace can be defined as mercy, clemency, temporary immunity or exemption (not from the law, but from death). A favor rendered by one who need not do so. Grace is divine love and protection bestowed freely on people. It is a state of being protected or sanctified by the favor of God. Grace is often misunderstood and misinterpreted by many, even pastors and priests, who lead the congregation as shepherds over God’s flock. Romans 3:23-25 says we are justified freely by grace. To be justified is to be free of guilt and penalty attached to grievous sin through the redemption in Christ. Christ “purchased” our lives with his own. We, therefore, are indebted to him. There are terms and conditions as described in 1 Corinthians 6:9, Galatians 5:20-22, Ephesians 5:4-6, and Hebrews 12:27-29. These are not taught in churches for fear of losing the congregation. These conditions come from laws given by Moses from God. John 1:17 says, the law was given by Moses but Grace and truth come by Christ. We are saved by Grace, but we must still follow the law and keep his commandments. He will continue to forgive us our sins; however, he is not to be tested, for he is a consuming fire. We must, therefore, be hot for if we are lukewarm he will spit us out, Revelations 3:16. “But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Joshua 22:5 |

In no way would I even think to say there is no need for repentence. If and when we sin we must humble ourselves and beg for forgiveness. Each time we sin it is like putting our savior back on the cross. Which means he did not go through that for nothing. He did it so that we might be saved. He took the first step and now it is up to us if we are going to make it or not. Several psalms and even the Lords Prayer ask God for forgiveness. Repentance is part of spiritual growth. Think about it when you repent you are recognizing that you have made a mistake and have sinned. If you 9or anyone) is sincere you would make an effort not to commit that sin again. But God is so good that if you do you will be forgiven. But just because you are forgiven does not mean you will not be punished for your sins. Sin is a choice we make. We will never be perfect or with out sin, but our mission in life in to keep trying to get it right.

Okay are you then saying repentance is neccessary? EdB |

6 | Show me scripture that says we can sin | Acts 15:11 | HisEmpress | 143126
yes repentance is very necessary. Take a look at 1 Kings 8, Ezekiel 14:6, 18:30, Matt. 3:2, 4:17, Mark 1:15, 6:12, Luke 13:2-6, 17:4.

Okay, then aren’t you in agreement with the crux of my question? That repentance is necessary for salvation and by definition repentance from sin is to hate or avoid sin, you turn away from sin. That is to say you turn away from mediated sin. You still might react to a situation and sin. But you no longer consciously set out to commit sin. Therefore there will be not be murderers, liars, thieves, and adulterers in heaven. Only repented murderers, repented liars, repented thieves and repented adulterers. The missing word was repented. To enter heaven you must be repentant and trusting in the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Do you agree? EdB |

I totally agree! There will only be repented sinners in heaven. I totally agree that to enter heaven you must be repent and trust in the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.

HisEmpress Okay now think of all the ramifications of wqhat you agreed with. If we repent we turn from sin, we hate sin, we resist committing sin, sinning is no longer part of our nature. Doesn’t all of this make any discussion such as ‘Can a Christian commit murder and be saved’ unnecessary? EdB |

Ok now we get technical, which is good. First you don't have to be a christian to go to heaven. Being "classified" does not matter. The bible says, "Thou shall NOT commit murder"! There seems to be imformation missing after that. Why would God say "Thou shall Not..." and then say, well, if you ask for forgiveness... God does not change he is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow. So if he put the law down then it still applies today. So back to your original question, Can a Christian commit murder and be saved? According the the new testament, yes. But according to the old testament no, because they would have been stoned. But my answer to you is, there are no degrees of sin and if someone sins and asks for forgiveness they will be forgiven. But they better fear God because they will be punished. Not only that is they die in the act of any sin before they have the chance to ask for forgivness they go to hell without question. So there really is no point in even taking the chance and if someone choses to do so they face the consequinces. |

Perhaps you would clarify your statement and I quote, "First you don't have to be a christian to go to heaven." Do you not agree that the only way to heaven is by the Blood of Christ? Is not a follower of Christ a Christian? EdB |

12 | Show me scripture that says we can sin | Acts 15:11 | Mr and Mrs Rowdy | 143246
This passage from Jesus sounds pretty conclusive to me. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. I don't see how anyone could argue. Jesus Christ is the one single way we have to be assured of going to Heaven. God bless. Rowdy |

Rowdy I think you were asked to leave his forum beccause of your repeated refusal to submit to Lockman guidelines. Hence your privilege of posting here was revoked. I think it is unbecoming of anyone especially someone that claims to be a Christian to circumvent the system by deception. Therefore I don’t think you have anything to offer this discussion and ask you to reconsider your actions. EdB |

Not everyone who believes God has excepted them no matter what and would not reject them for anything is looking for a way to live in sin, especially murder. There is a difference being justified and sactified. God justifies win we believe in Jesus and sactification envolves our efforts which won't get us into heaven. So then God's gift is not a question of human will and human effort, but of God's mercy. It depends not on ones own willigness nor on his streneous exertion as in running a race, but on God's having mercy on him. Rom 9:16 |
