1 | Do tongues relate to worship in context? | John 4:23 | Searcher56 | 122501
Word study ... proskuneo, sebomai, sebazomai ... The primary Greek word, for worship, is proskuneo. It means to kiss the hand to (towards) one, in token of reverence. Westerns may not understand this. It is not a romantic or family kiss. I doubt many of us kiss with reverence, even if we kiss the ring of the Pope. There were ancients that kissed their idols. Two Greek words, sebomai and sebazomai, deal with reverance, w/o the act of going prostrate. In all cases revere or some form of it is better. They are sometimes are translated worship. The primary Hebrew word, for "worship", shachah, is a powerful one. It describes the physical act of actually prostrating yourself on the floor before a sovereign, someone who has complete control over you. It is translated bow, homage, prostrate, worship, weighs it down or a similar words. Daniel wrote in Aramaic. The word he used, 12 times, is c@gid, pronounces segeed. It is translated to prostrate one-self, do homage, worship. It is related to the Hebrew cagad You said "Assuming that the other members of the congregation are truly worshipping in spirit and in truth, how is it possible that they can be disrupted by anything or any one other than Almighty God?" ... The word translated worship is proskuneo ... and while the congregation can worship at the same time - the focus is on God. If it is not, I doubt it is worship. Moreover, I think Satan wants us to take our thoughts off God. I also believe that he wants was not to get prostrate before Him. You said "When we are truly caught up in the worship experience (adoring our risen Savior) there is simply no time or motivation to see or hear other worshippers." ... I would like to know where "adore" is in the context of "worship"? I have studied the subject of worship and know that many know why and where we worship and some may when we can worship (preparation) ... but most do not understand what worship is, who we worship (the names of God). I am waiting for the sences of Revelation to happen - when we bow on our knees and faces on the ground. Hope we are practcing today. |

3 | Where's "Our whole life becomes worship" | John 4:23 | Searcher56 | 122510
Word study ... proskuneo, latreia, latreuo .... Restored, Where does the Bible say "Our whole life becomes worship in whatever we do,we do it unto the Lord?" Romans 12:1 is translated, "your spiritual service of worship". But, I say it is not translated correctly ... based on the original, context and the Greek word 1. The Original Having both service and worship not make sense, since it only appears once in the original ... logikh;n (spiritual) latreivan (service) uJmw'n: (your). 2. The Context The King James Version translates the last phrase, "which is your reasonable service." Which fits better? The rest of the chapter, even up to Romans 15:22 is about our service. 3. The Greek word Proskuneo is the main word for worship in Greek. The Greek verb for service is latreuo. Latreia is the Greek noun form, which Romans 12:1 is. Three times proskuneo and latreuo are linked together (Mat 4:10, Luk 4:8, Rom 1:25). Never is latreuo translated worship. The same is true for the Aramaic (Dan 3:12,14, 18, 28) and Hebrew counterparts (Exo 20:5, 23:24, Deu 4:19, 5:9, 8:19, 11:16, 17:3, 29:26, 30:17; 1 Kin 9:6, 9, 16:31, 22:53; 2 Kin 17:16, 21:3, 21:21; 2 Chr 7:19, 22, 33:3; Psa 97:7; Jer 25:6). Do not think service as being worship, tho they are related I never said "Worship is not just in a church assembly" ... that was the issue in John 4. While we can worship there, we can worship anywhere. |
