Reighnskye Actually everyone judges everyone. It’s called discernment and spiritual discernment is a gift of the spirit. How we assimilate that information will be conditioned by many factors, such as biases, prejudices, education, value system, experience etc. It is what you do with the information you have compiled after you judge them that matters. If the we are in the natural the results will be negative. One might even excuse another’s actions because they are guilty of the same thing but ultimately the end results will be negative. However if we are truly walking in a Christ like manner then the results will be positive. EdB |

EdB, If indeed we judge the character of others, are we not then merely comparing ourselves one against the other? But if we judge ourselves and others, as compared to the righteous character of God, then we shall all stand condemned. - James 4 1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. (NAS95) Proverbs 22 2 The rich and the poor have a common bond, The LORD is the maker of them all. (NAS95) - Blessings, Reighnskye |

Reighnskye It is human nature to judge or compare as you call it. Your right compared to God's righteousness we all stand condemned that is why Christ died for us, it is no longer our righteousness but His. However that does not negate the human instinct to judge using our biases, prejudices, experiences, education, and discernment. Again the judging process is not the problem where the process becomes a problem is what we do with the information once we reach our conclusion. Jesus told us to be careful the standard we set for others will become the standard by which we are judged Matt 7:1,2. Again if we are of the world we will process the information gained in our judgement and use it a negative way. If however we are of Christ and allow Christ to move through us the outcome will be positive. Things we can not and should not attempt to judge is whether a person is saved or not 1 Sa 16:7. Another is how a person should serve the Lord Roman 14:3,4. However the Lord tells us plainly we shall know them by their fruit Mt 17:6 and that requires us to judge. EdB |

EdB, You wrote: "It is human nature to judge or compare as you call it. Again the judging process is not the problem where the process becomes a problem is what we do with the information once we reach our conclusion." I suggest that the human instinct is not only to judge with our biases, prejudices, experiences, education and discernment (though I shudder to associate these words together in the same context), it is also our instinct to behave in a sinful way. Perhaps if we could offset the biases and prejudices in our judgments of others, then we could more readily use our information in a positive way. I'm not aware of how one would come to a positive active result, when biases and prejudices blemish the discernment. But I must agree that biases and prejudices are part of the carnal human instinct. I just would not attempt to negate the destructive influence that they play into our judgments, and therefore our subsequent actions toward and/or interactions with other people. - 2 Corinthians 5 16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Reighnskye To judge someone does not in itself constitute sin. It is what we do with that judgement that determines whether we sin or not. For example I see a man staggering and falling down, I draw near and smell alcohol. I judge he is drunk. I then can either turn on my heels and walk away shaking my head saying a drunkard is in danger of hell's fire or I can go try to determine how to best help him. Perhaps he needs a safe way home, perhaps some coffee, perhaps an ear to listen to the reason why he is drunk, perhaps the police to arrest him and keep him safe until he is sober. Another example I see a young woman dressed in very revealing clothing, standing on street corner waving to cars. I judge her to a be prostitute. I can either walk away shaking my head saying adulteress or I can perhaps get some ladies to minister to her. Offer her a alternative life style from the one she is in. Perhaps nothing more than telling her Jesus loves her. In each of these I judged but in each of these I tried to apply a Christlike responses to that Judgment. Let us go deeper. I hate tattoo's. The reason I hate tattoo's is because to me they are visible proof this person makes life effecting decisions on the spur of the moment and/or without thinking through all the consequences. After I reach that judgement I can then walk away saying boy they defied Lev.19:28 so I want nothing more to do with them Or I get to know them and understand where they are coming from and see what they are really like. I could pretend not to see that tattoo, or pretend that to me it doesn’t matter but then I would be living a lie. To me tattoos do matter but because of Christ in me tattoos are not the basis to reject or disfellowship myself from someone. One way is negative the other is positive but both involved the same judgment process. EdB |

EdB, I greatly appreciate the very apt examples that you provide, insofar as they help me to better understand your position. I suppose that we might just be using different word analogies, but examples really seem to go much farther it seems. - Blessings, Reighnskye |
