1 | what about Matt. 16:27 | Matt 16:28 | jmcdanie | 46344
are you saying that that verse 28 is fulfilled by the transfiguration story? If that is so how do we explain the 16:27 and the rewards and angles and judgment
2 | what about Matt. 16:27 | Matt 16:28 | Makarios | 46375
Greetings Jmcdanie! I believe that Matthew 16:27 can ONLY be understood as a "Second Coming" verse, or a verse that describes the Second Coming of Jesus Christ! If you look at the very next verse, verse 28, it says, "the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." So not only does the context lead us to believe that Jesus is speaking of the Second Coming, but we also have the judgment and angels being referred to in this verse as well! So that makes it clear that this verse must be speaking of the Second Coming of Christ. "Matthew 16:27 Verse 27. For the Son of man, etc. That is, the Lord Jesus Christ shall return to judge the world. He will come in glory--the glory of his Father--the majesty with which God is accustomed to appear, and which befits God. He will be attended by angels. He will judge all men." (1) "Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come. Then all shall receive their deserts; those who lose their lives shall gain life; those who choose the world shall lose all. As Christ begins to teach of dying on the cross, he begins to give prominence to his coming again." (2) "16:27 ... is going to come. The parousia, the eschatological coming of Christ." 3 | what about Matt. 16:27 | Matt 16:28 | Mommapbs | 67311
Greetings in our Saviour's Name! I was asked about this verse today and thought I'd consult the Forum on it. I agree that this is in reference to the second coming. My intial reaction to this verse was that the "death" is the second death of Revelation 21:8. So as Jesus spoke these words, He knew that some of those within their hearing would reject Him, thus sealing thier eternal destiny. Comments? mommapbs |

4 | what about Matt. 16:27 | Matt 16:28 | Robert Nicholson | 67350
Greetings mommapbs: I believe that verse 27 of Matt. 17 is speaking as has been mentioned when Christ comes in glory and power as in 2 Thess. 1: 7-9 where it speaks of Christ coming in judgment against those who have disobeyed the gospel and in v. 10 "When he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all them that believe" He is coming as promised in Acts 1 and this same glorified Jesus Christ, his feet will rest again on the mount of olives from whence he left. However, in verse 28 "...there be some standing here which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom" I believe speaks of Peter, James and John in chp 17 where they saw his coming glory in miniture during his transfiguration. John later writes "...and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth" (John 1:14) I think that John is referring to that day when he along with Peter and James had the joy of seeing the Lord Jesus when "he was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as light" Matt. 17:2 God bless Robert |

Greetings Robert, I appreciate your response and do consider this train of thinking, however, how is "coming in His kingdom" pictured in the Transfiguration? I suppose one might infer that this affirmation of Christ's divinity reveals Him as KING. And yes, the disciples beheld His glory; but at this point I'm hard pressed to say that they saw Him "coming in His kingdom." (This is just my personal opinion - open to change as led by the Spirit.) Either way, isn't it wonderful to KNOW that Jesus IS coming back! Oh that will be glory! Maranantha! mommapbs |

Mommapbs, OK so you see Matt. 16:27-28 as Second Coming verses. I agree. Did you notice that Jesus said he was returning in THAT very generation (before all of them died)? The Second Coming is history. http://www.preterim.info.
