Bible Question: are you saying that that verse 28 is fulfilled by the transfiguration story? If that is so how do we explain the 16:27 and the rewards and angles and judgment |
Bible Answer: Greetings Jmcdanie! I believe that Matthew 16:27 can ONLY be understood as a "Second Coming" verse, or a verse that describes the Second Coming of Jesus Christ! If you look at the very next verse, verse 28, it says, "the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." So not only does the context lead us to believe that Jesus is speaking of the Second Coming, but we also have the judgment and angels being referred to in this verse as well! So that makes it clear that this verse must be speaking of the Second Coming of Christ. "Matthew 16:27 Verse 27. For the Son of man, etc. That is, the Lord Jesus Christ shall return to judge the world. He will come in glory--the glory of his Father--the majesty with which God is accustomed to appear, and which befits God. He will be attended by angels. He will judge all men." (1) "Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come. Then all shall receive their deserts; those who lose their lives shall gain life; those who choose the world shall lose all. As Christ begins to teach of dying on the cross, he begins to give prominence to his coming again." (2) "16:27 ... is going to come. The parousia, the eschatological coming of Christ."
