Hi, Ed... Let's see if I can answer your questions in order: The connection started in the first paragraph and ended in the last. I assume full responsibility for any lack of clarity. I tried to connect the dots for you. Nevertheless: Yes. Yes. Yes. With a tiny bit of effort, you can trace the antinomian connection with dispensationalism. It is an accusation -- whether warranted or not -- that is as old as dispensationalism. Obviously, antinomianism is as old as Genesis 3. I don't claim to be an expert on the matter. The prophecy mongering that goes on tends to turn me away from paying much more attention. However, given that the seven dispensations are labeled (1) Freedom, (2) Conscience, (3) Government, (4) Promise, (5) Law, (6) Grace, and (7) Millennial -- doesn't it sound as though there is a dichotomy between 5 and 6? Anyway, I could give you quotes -- someone (a dispensationalist) sent me a few yesterday -- that draw the connection of antinomianism with dispensationalism; but I am certain it would only server to increase your annoyance. It does seem that dispensationalism gets revamped every few decades, so what do I know? If you teach it without tracing that progression, that's okay by me. Again: I'm not interested in pushing any buttons concerning your particular position. You are also welcome to question my motives -- I question them all the time. Perhaps you have a special insight. I rather doubt it, though, since the righteousness of Christ in the Word (the mirror of the law) shows a lot more fault in my heart than you have accused me of having. If you knew me like God knows me... well, THEN you could start striking closer to the mark! (I wish we lived nearer to one another. I think I would have benefited a great deal if we might have had all these discussions over coffee.) God bless you, sir. Thank you for your lengthy ministry. In Him, Doc |

"doesn't it sound as though there is a dichotomy between 5 and 6?" There is a huge step between sounding like a dichotomy and saying Dispensationalism teaches, supports or otherwise agrees with Antinomianism. I don't claim a progression in Dispensationalism it was you that made that claim. How does all the prophecy mongering get tied to dispensationalism? Southern Baptist probably the staunchest supporters of Dispensationalism believe and teach cessation in regards to prophecy. Once again it seems something is cited that plays no part in the actual subject. |
