Bible Question: I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING FAITH BAPTIST CHRUCH AND WAS THINKING ABOUT CHANGING MY LETTER, WHEN I NOTICED THERE WASN'T EVER AN INVITATION AT THE END OF THE SERVICES. WE ASKED AND IT WAS EXPLAINED TO US WE WOULD HAVE TO BE REVIEWED BY A GROUP OF 3 ELDERS AND THEY DECIDE IF WE ARE TRULY SAVED BEFORE WE COULD JOIN. MY QUESTION IS: I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PRACTICE IN A BAPTIST CHURCH DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON THIS, OR IS THIS SOMETHING I NEED TO LET ALONE. THANK SANDRA |
Bible Answer: Sandra, what you have described is a form of legalism. There is nothing in the Scripture that substantiates such requirements within the Church. It is not up to any human to determine if you are 'really saved'. I would not presume to tell you what to do, but if it were me in the same position I would seek another church that teaches Bible doctrine rather than one that is so obviously into legalism and puts conditions such as these upon a member of Christ's Church. It is so simple, really. Your belief and faith in HIM has made you a member of the Lord's Church. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.
