Subject: How do I forgive adultry if it continues |
Bible Note: Hello TJS, I'm not sure how you define "coming into the light" Biblically? The goal of the Christian life is not to stop sinning! Rather, it is to get to know my Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ (Phil 3:10). I referred earlier to Gal. 5:16 as it instructs us to "walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh". Notice, it doesn't say 'clean up your life and you'll be spiritual", or "stop sinning". Paul also tells us in Rom. 14:23 that, "...whatever is not from faith is sin". How many times do we not operate by faith? That alone should be enough to convince one of the futility in trying to keep short accounts with God. Yes, unfortunately, I do do the things I don't want to do- more often than I'd like to admit! Again, Paul addresses this issue in Rom. 7. Particularly note verses 18-20: "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me." (NASB) These are in the present tense- assumedly describing his current condition as a saved person. Note his culmination in vs. 25: "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord" (NASB). Our only victory over sin is in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ! We constantly struggle with sin (note Gal. 5:17). Biblically, we are forgiven of all our sins- Col. 2:13, "When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions" (NASB) Now, my motivation is BECAUSE of His grace! Titus 2:11-12 states, "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age," (NASB) NOTHING I do in the flesh will please Him! (Rom. 8:8, Gal. 5:4, 1 Cor. 15:56) Have you trusted the Lord as your Savior? That is the major issue to resolve:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
