Bible Question: Does the Lockman Foundation ever intend to release a version of the NASB using the Majority (Byzantine) text as the basis of the New Testament translation? I find there is a real need for a mainstream translation based on the Majority Text. I have owned several NASB's over the years and it has been my primary Bible that I used for study. However in the past year as I grow more familiar with the textual criticism debate I find I favor the view that the Majority Text is the more reliable set of manuscripts. It appears to be a growing belief amongst conservative Christians. I don't want to debate it, I am just thinking that the Lockman foundation would be the perfect group to take on such a project because of the excellent work that you've done on the NASB. There is a definite market for such a Bible. It would be in a class by itself. |
Bible Answer: While it is not for me to tell Lockman's what to do I suspect that they will not produce such a Bible based on inferior texts. There are continuing discoveries of early papyrus texts which underline quite definitely that the Byzantine text is a late text. There is not reslly a debate about that. You should read an up to date book on textual criticism written by genuine textual scholars, not by people seeking to sustain an unsustainable theory who do not actually study the texts concerned.
