Bible Question:
My name is Cory and I am a first time poster. I recently came to Christ and I have been studying the Bible. I was reading the Gospels and had a question concerning Simon Peter’s first encounter with Christ. I would like to know if anyone could help me understand this better. (Matthew 4:18-22, Luke 5:3-10, and Mark 1:16-20) The stories mirror each other, with a slight variation in Luke. But the gist is Simon Peter, his brother Andrew, Zebedee and John are all out on the water in their fishing boats. Jesus approaches them, with or without a miracle story, and then calls them to be fisher’s of men. (John 1:40-42) Here is my question. John’s story states that Andrew heard John the Baptist testify of Jesus and was convinced Jesus was the Christ. So he went to fetch is brother, Simon Peter, and present him to Jesus. I appreciate anyone helping me with this query. |
Bible Answer: I'm not sure if I got the question but here it goes... In Luke 5, Peter is confronted by Jesus with a dilemma. Peter tired from a day of fishing, is told something kinda offensive to him. A non fisherman is telling him how to fish. Peter thought to himself. Who is he to tell me how to fish - I'm the fisherman and he's the guy that is good at public speaking and putting on a good show. Jesus wanted to show Peter that what he thought he knew was not enough. There was a lot more to life that he really knew. Same application to us. When we think we know all that there is to know that is when we need to be shown by God that there is much more and that God has much to show us still. Jesus produced more fish than Peter could handle. It had just become Peter's biggest day of fishing and the funny thing is that Peter just left all of that fish behind to follow Jesus. Wow. Can you drop everything especially on your biggest day to follow the author of life? Peter did. He saw that he didn't know all that he though he knew. |
