Bible Question:
I am currently studying Isaiah 52-3 and am wondering why the NASB translates Isa 52:14 "as many were astonished at you, My people" As I study and read various commentators, I find that the astonishment is about the Messiah. So why is the "my people" included in this translation. Regards. |
Bible Answer: Hi amahoney, welcome. It seems that Isaiah Is [comparing] the level of astonishment. Given the fact that God had at sundry times shown His great power through the nation Israel and His Prophets, astonishing many people throughout their history. Isaiah Is really just comparing the two in his proghisy, by saying, Just as many were astonished at you "My people" also, many will be astonished at Him and His appearance. So there really isn't a problem with NASB making that comparison a little more clear. I hope that helped you, "My friend". God bless. John |
