Bible Question: In chapter 18 matthew talks of an ass and a colt. Mark 11, Luke 19 And John 12 mention only 1 animal, is there a contridiction in theses passages? |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum, I believe you must have meant, Matthew 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. Matthew 21:7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. The emphasis is only on the one that’s being ridden. Compare Matthew with the following. Zech. 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. If there were two animals mentioned then there surely had to be one. The emphasis is on the one that had never been ridden, not its mother therefore the other gospels didn’t actually go into the details or give all the facts. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
