Subject: Are we supposed to observe the Sabbath? |
Bible Note: Greetings Searcher! Thanks for the clarification my friend! I wasn't clear on the issues! Allow me to make a couple of observations. 1) The verb in Acts 20:7 is in the passive voice. So, that part of her statement was correct. 2) The verb in Acts 20:7 may or may not have a passive meaning. That particular verb in the passive voice can function as an intransitive verb. 3) You are correct that simply being in the passive voice does not necessarily indicate that their gathering was because of divine initiative. They could have been gathered together because one of the disciples called them together. The passive voice simply means that that the subject receives the action of the verb. So, a passive voice simply refers to anyone or anything who is acted upon by someone or something else. 4) I'm not sure that this point really deserved this much heat! :-) The text isn't clear enough either way to conclusively say who the 'actor' was in the verb.
