Subject: How did alter calls or invitations start |
Bible Note: Salvation come by conviction of the Holy Spirit and the door is through Jesus. The biblical model ia actually a reverse of the altar call. (Acts 2:37 NASB) Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" It was by true conviction the preacher made no call but the Holy Spirit moved the person to ask the preachers what must be done. I have no problem with altar calls if they used to give a person the opportunity to publicaly confess their faith, recommitment,or renewal, but often these are just jump in jump out types of movement that have no real spiritual drive behind them. Gof has to be the judge of those things, our job is to teach temporary emotional surges are not true Christian commitment and that only come from the power of the Holy Spirit. The Ps 52:12 really says it as long as it is God you are turning to and not the preacher. |
