Bible Question: Jesus came to fulfill the law - and he did so. Does this absolve us from the concsious endeavor of following said law? I figure that if He came to fulfill it, then we should too. Not by observing the letter of the law, but by adhering to the spirit of the law - love. Is this sound doctrine? |
Bible Answer: I think that too many when they look at this verse don't look at the "complete" verse. It says he has come to fullfill the law AND THE PROPHETS. That will help to understand what he means by fullfill. Here is what I think. I've done some study on this We can not fullfill the law. fullfill is to "complete" He did not say that he came to perpetuate the law (* perpetuate - to cause to last indefinitely) He also fullfilled what the prophets wrote about him. He brought it to pass. Romans 4:12 But now righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known to which the LAW AND THE PROPHETS testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith IN CHRIST JESUS, for all that believe. 27 Where then is boasting? it is excluded, on what principle? On that of observing the law? NO.!! But on that of faith. Ephesians 2:14 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations his purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. The law was our guardian until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith. We are now under a new covenant 2Co 3:6 - He has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit produces life. The straight and narrow of the law shows us how crooked and in need of a savior we are. WE though are not saved by "works" Jesus said he gives us command of Love and says that it sums up the law. We are to be Christ Like, so should we strive then to Live as Christ. Absolutely. Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase, by no means, We dided to sin, how can we live in it any longer. 15: What then, Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? by no means. 7:6 We have been released from the lawso that we serve in the new way of the spirit and not in the old way of the written code. Hebrews 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of truth, no sacrafice for sins is left. The Lord says there is not even one righteous, if you break one of the laws you are guilty of breaking all of them. I've heard this described that if you were hanging by a chain...hundreds of feet above the ground, and just ONE of those links broke. You really wouldn't care if the other links broke or not..your headed for a fall. WE are to be Christ like, putting on compassion, love, humility, building one another up, and so much else. Not to get to Christ, but to Be like Christ. For though we were sinners he died for us, We were bought with a price. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that who so ever believes in him will have everlasting Life. There is but only one name that salvation comes. Thank You Jesus. |
