Subject: Cup Passed? |
Bible Note: Isn't it rather obvious? Your question that is, "Why Jesus prayed for the cup to be passed from him?" What if you knew every excruciating little detail, as Christ did, beforehand and you had to go through all of the torture and suffering that Christ went through and the humiliation and pain of being crucified and knew on top of all this that God was going to punish you for all the sins of mankind from Adam to the end of time, wouldn’t that make you a little nervous and apprehensive, remember Jesus was also a man! That was the hardest thing ever accomplished by a man and even Christ didn't know what to expect, pain wise, when God poured out His wrath on him! I question your even asking! The movie, The Passion, couldn’t go into the details as to what it was like to be separated from God as Christ was but we are all reminded that everything up to the sixth hour when there was darkness didn’t cause him to cry out; It wasn’t until God forsook him that he screamed at the ninth hour! The only ones that will experience what Jesus suffered are those that won’t trust in God’s Son, and they will get a first hand feeling as to why Jesus said, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
