Bible Question:
When Jesus died and took our sins upon himself and took the punishment that was due to us, how was he able to go back to Heaven? If we didn't accept him as Lord and our sins were upon us, we would go to Hell. Can someone explain this to me. DD |
Bible Answer: Hey DD. That is a very interesting question you pose. When they laid the cross down, and nailed Jesus to it, He became the "Lamb with no blemish",and all the sins of mankind were placed upon Him. When they raised Him up, He became the "priest forever in the order of Mechizedec"(Heb 7:17), lifting them up to God. After He died the risen Christ became the Firstborn of the resurrected(Col. 1:18--And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.) Another verse to refer to would be Hebrews 2:9--But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. So if we bear our own sins, without giving them to Jesus to take to the Father, then they will remain with us, unforgiven. But, if we take our self, allow it to be crucified with Christ(Gal 2:20), become a new creation through His righteousness(2 Cor 5:17), then His blood cleanses our soul(1 Tim 2:5), so we may enter His holy presence.
