Bible Question:
Ordination of Women There seem to be many views about this topic. I want to know how can anyone question someone who feels that they have been called by God? We have a woman in our church who feels that God is calling her to be ordained. This has split our church right down the middle as far as opinions go. I am of the thinking that if someone feels they have heard God speaking to them, who are we (they) to say he isn't??? Does anyone have any insight on this. I will be representing my opinion (and that of many others) tonight in our church conference. Any advice, suggestions, scripture is appreciated! |
Bible Answer: This is one area where understanding early New Testament culture is important. Also reading the context of the scriptures. The true doctrine is that women should be under authority but they can preach and teach only they should be under authority of spiritual men. Also there is not a lot of scriptural backing for the idea of ordination anyway. I mean if leaders lay hands on her and send he forth after they have all prayed and heard from God then that is scriptural. But formal ordination and letters and licenses are man made and never were commanded by God. Those are attempt of men to control other preachers threatening them with removal of office if they do not agree with their doctrines. If she is called by God she will have a peaceful heart and walk in Love and in a spirit of gentleness, obey God. She will do the will of God and preach what He tells her to, to whom He tells her to, while the carnal argue over whether she should or not. And while they are arguing about it, she will be winning souls and laying up treasure in heaven. Tell her to join a charismatic church or a non-denominational church, they welcome women and recognize that God uses women just like men. The one thing she must not do is strive with men about it. If God has called her to preach, she will do so, and no man will be able to stop her, howbeit she should not say this, but rather just do it. God Bless You in your Study of His Word You can read in many commentaries how the women were asking questions out of order and that was why Paul said they should ask their husbands at home. And in the church a woman should not have authority over a man. So I think that rules out single women pastoring. But not entirely. What I mean is that a missionary woman will often operate in the office of a pastor until a man is appointed. There were women judges in Israel and there will be women that God chooses today. The main thing is the heart that has faith in God. Whether it be woman , man or child, if an individual exercises faith in God He will move heaven and earth to show himself mighty on thier behalf. The thing that amazes me is how certain denominations made by men will create laws for new testament saints and forget about the spirit of the message. You would think that after reading the New testament they would get it. That there are no such "laws" for New testament saints. We walk in holiness that is greater than anything the OT saints new, and we do it without a list of rules. We do it by fellowship with God. The truth will set her free. |
