Subject: How wer early church services structured |
Bible Note: Dear M, I am not certain what the femine version of the Latin word for deacon may be (my Latin is very poor) and after a difficult day at the office, I'm loathe to dig it up. :-) However, Jerome uses the word diacones in 1 Timothy 3:12. Clearly it is a transliteration of the Greek, as is our own English word. As you are very interested in this topic, I'd recommend you to a fairly lengthy discussion of the topic. The following is as solidly Biblical and historical as I've found. It is called "A Historical and Biblical Examination of Women Deacons." (Warning: It is pretty scholarly and lengthy!) http://reformedonline.com/view/reformedonline/deacon.htm In Him, Doc |
