Subject: How wer early church services structured |
Bible Note: Thanx for the link. In my readings there I found mention of deaconesses through one of the letters written by Pliny the younger. I then looked up the actual letter on line and found the exact quote. He writes: “These examinations made me think it necessary to inquire by torments what the truth was; which I did of two servant maids, who were called Deaconesses: but still I discovered no more than that they were addicted to a bad and to an extravagant superstition“. This letter must have been written in latin. I wonder what the latin for Deaconess was? It does seem to suggest it was an official title doesn't it? -M |
