Bible Question: I have always had people tell me that God will not give me more than I can handle. I am looking for scripture that states that? I am also looking for scripture that implies that? I have been asked this question as part of a study group, and I am not knowledgeable enough to know where to look. |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum, It hard to say what others had in mind when they suggested to you, as you put it, “God will not give me more than I can handle.” This is the verse that comes to mind, 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. I’d like to point out though that it isn’t God that’s dishing “it” out as it were; he is the one providing the support that we can endure through “it” and hold up under the pressure by applying the correct Bible doctrine to the problem so that “it” doesn’t progress. James 1:12-15 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. [13] Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: [14] But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. [15] Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
