Bible Question:
If Jesus did not baptize anyone, then what about His first disciples? Were they all followers of John the Baptist, and John's baptism was good enough? Or did Jesus baptize His first disciples? Thanks |
Bible Answer: Remember Matt 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector's booth; and He *said to him, "Follow Me!" And he got up and followed Him. and we all know what Paul was...he was a tent maker but most of all, he was a devout Jew and a persecutor of christians; he even blessed the killing of the first martyr, Stephen. So Christ called a wide variety of men to come into His inner circle of disciples to become Apostles. Now concerning John the Baptist's baptism, I can only quote Acts 19:1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." 4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And regarding Jesus doing any baptizing, the Bible doesn't address that issue at all, which seems to say to me that it isn't considered important at all. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |
