Bible Note: Hello, Darcy -- Your observations on this subject of images of our Lord are quite good and, typical of your other fine contributions to this forum, make a good deal of sense. As with images of Jesus so with the original autographs of Scripture: neither exists. Of the written word we have manuscripts that were painstakingly copied from the autographs. It has been observed that it is a singular blessing that the original autographs no longer are extant, because great would be the temptation to worship them instead of God, which is, of course, idolatry. Imagine how much greater the temptation would be to worship images of Christ if they existed. Our Lord said, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24). .... By the way, Darcy, your area of Virginia is truly beautiful. I've visited Roanoke on occassion, having represented a Roanoke company, Shenandoah Life, as a long-time member (now retired) of the insurance industry. ..... In Christ, --Hank |
