Bible Note: Thank you for your response. Your feelings are in tune with John Paul II. If I may quote him from a chapter in Life In Christ: "There is no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss". Also, I found another passage that says that unintentional ignorance can diminish or even remove the imputability of a grave offense. But no one is deemed to be ignorant of the principles of the moral law, which are written in the conscience of every man. When I spoke of the book the Poisonwood Bible I was referring to the minister that was on a mission. He lost sight of the true path of Jesus' footprints and was not open to the cultural and tribal beliefs. This is nothing new as missionaries go forth all the time but they do what they can with respect to others beliefs which is a way of life to them. I agree that the outward signs of belief do not always reveal the inward signs of faith and grace. Without those we are lost. It is very hard for some to be humble but God made us in His own image and gave us free will. What beautiful gifts He bestowed upon us. Hugs from CA, Rose |
