Bible Question: Recently I turned 21 and got a copy of the Today's English Version 2 (TEV2), 1992 edition. (I had gotten the 1976 edition [TEV1] a few years back.) This version of the TEV was produced under the imprint of the GodSpeaks billboard campaign. What's your view on the TEV? I find it to a fresh rendering of God's Word. I helps balence out some of the literal renderings of the KJV, NRSV, and their kin. |
Bible Answer: Greetings roverjbh99! Congratulations on turning 21 my friend! Please don't party too much.. :) My younger brother just turned 21 yesterday and I'm praying for him also. I like the TEV! I haven't honestly seen the TEV 2 yet, but I really like the TEV as a translation and it has to be my favorite paraphrase. The TEV does not make tremendous "leaps" like the Living Bible does and it is only interpretive in a sense to convey the meaning, and I believe that it does a good job! You can read the TEV like a novel while being assured that what you are reading remains faithful and more often than not accurate to the original tongues, even though it is a paraphrase and was not designed with the same intent as the NASB. So my Vote is: Two Thumbs Up! --Nolan |
